Patterson and Curtiss Gilbert requesting Council consideration of their request to rename Betty Rae Way to Peach Ten Lane. Steve Osguthorpe, AICP, Community Development Director Royale Schneider, Code Inspection Office Supervisor, (509) 576-6669 Attached is a copy of the street renaming application submitted on April 8, 2014 by Alan E. Patterson and Curtiss Gilbert to rename the private road Betty Rae Way to Peach Ten Lane, which will remain a private road. There are only two homes addressed on Betty Rae Way. Betty Rae Lynch, whom the road was named after, was the wife of Robert Lynch. They previously resided in the home now occupied by Alan E. Patterson. In their narrative, the applicants state that the property was initially purchased by Curtiss Gilbert in 1916 and it became known to that family as the "Peach Ten Block". Currently, the original owner's grandson and family (applicant Curtiss Gilbert) reside in the home at 5402 Betty Rae Way. Both applicant's came to the collective opinion that "Peach Ten Lane" would be appropriate. Per Yakima Municipal Code 8.70, Council shall consider petitions to rename streets at a regularly scheduled Council Meeting and make an initial determination of whether the petition is a valid request that should be considered at a public hearing. If so, City Council shall schedule a time, date and place for the public hearing. Upon scheduling the public hearing, all property owners abutting the street shall be notified of the public hearing, which shall precede the hearing date by no less than thirty (30) days. After the public hearing, if Council deems the proposal to be in the best interest of the City of Yakima, they shall approve said request by Resolution. A Resolution approving a renamed street shall take effect six months from the date of the Resolution. Should Council decide to proceed with the public process established in YMC 8.70, to review street name change applications, the next step would be for Council to set a public hearing on this proposed name change. Staff recommends a hearing date of July 1, 2014 to allow time for mailing of notices, which must be received "no less than 30 days" prior to the hearing, and to allow time for the recipients to comment on the proposal.
