ITEM TITLE: Consideration of a request from the Yakima Union Gospel
Mission for a letter of support regarding the Mission's grant
funding request to expand its Long Term Residential Housing
Complex and Medical Care Center.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
On February 10th, the Council Partnerships Committee (Ettl, Cawley, Adkison) heard a
presentation from Yakima Union Gospel Mission representatives regarding that organization's
plans to submit an application to the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco for a $1.5
million grant to be used to help fund an approximately $3 million project to expand the Mission's
Long Term Residential Housing Complex and its Medical Care Center. At its February 10th
meeting, the Council Partnerships Committee unanimously recommended the City Council
approve a letter of support for the Yakima Union Gospel Mission for its grant application. This
request complies with the City Council's policy on non-profit organization endorsement
requests.

for the Yakima Union Gospel Mission regarding its application for a $1.5 million grant from the

The Yakima City Council is pleased to support the application by the Yakima Union
Gospel Mission to the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco for a $1.5 million
grant to be used as part of an approximately $3 million project to expand the
Mission's Long Term Residential Housing Complex and its Medical Care Center.
At its February 10th meeting, the Yakima City Council Partnerships Committee
learned a great deal from the presentation you and other members of your staff
made regarding the need for the expansion of the Mission's Long Term Residential
Housing Complex and Medical Care Center. Your organization is to be
commended for its continued commitment to ensuring valuable housing options and
quality medical for homeless men and women interested in making life changing
choices are available in our community.
The Yakima City Council values the tremendous asset that the Yakima Union
Gospel Mission has been to our community since it first opened in 1936. The
Yakima City Council admires the dedication that the Mission has demonstrated by
creating and operating valuable programs and services that assist the poor and
homeless in our area.
The Yakima City Council wishes you success in your application to secure grant
funding from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. Please let me know if
there is any other assistance the City Council can provide to the Yakima Union
