RoII Call Present: Council: Mayor Dave Edler, presiding, Council Members Ron Bonlender, Micah Cawley, Norm Johnson, Bill Lover, and Susan Whitman Staff: City Manager Zais, City Attorney Paolella and Acting City Clerk Moore Absent: Neil McClure (Excused) 2. Consideration of Committees for preparation of voters pamphlet message on Safe Community Action Plan ballot measure The committees for preparation of the voters pamphlet message on the Safe Community Action Plan ballot measure must be appointed by Friday, August 25 JOHNSON MOVED AND CAWLEY SECONDED TO APPOINT BILL DOLSEN, ESTER HUEY, AND BERNAL BACA TO WRITE THE FOR STATEMENT. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote; McClure absent. JOHNSON MOVED AND CAWLEY SECONDED TO APPOINT JAR ARCAND, MIKE MURPHY, AND SANDRA SWANSON TO WRITE THE AGAINST STATEMENT. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote; McClure absent. City Manager Zais advised there would be four public forums scheduled over the next four weeks to present and receive citizen input on the Safe Community Action Plan. The Community Relations Committee is working on an informational brochure and Power Point presentation for the forums. The meetings will consist of approximately 25 minutes of presentation and an hour of public input. Each Council member will have an opportunity to express their opinion. These are neither public hearings nor endorsement sessions. On September 19 legislation will be brought before Council to place the item on the November ballot. If Council desires, a public hearing can be scheduled to entertain pro and con statements. Council may then make a determination of their stand on the issue. 145 AUGUST 24, 2006 ADJOURNED MEETING SAFE COMMUNITIES ACTION PLAN 3. Adjournment • JOHNSON MOVED AND CAWLEY SECONDED TO ADJOURN TO AUGUST 29, 2006 AT THE YAKIMA CONVENTION CENTER, ROOM D, FOR A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE CONTINUATION OF THE WAL- MART APPEALS HEARING.
