Re: Parking Issues on Naches Avenue, Yakima Ave. to SSGT Pendleton Way
The only unusual parking layout along the YMCA frontage on Naches Avenue is a three
foot hashed area at the first stall north of Yakima Avenue. It is a remnant from when the
handicap parking for the YMCA was located at the main entrance. As it is not wide
enough for even a motorcycle to park there when another vehicle is in the marked stall,
it does not cause a problem.
The larger problem is at the intersection of Naches and SSGT Pendleton Way for the
north bound direction. There are no signs or marking on the southeast or the northeast
corner to show how close a vehicle may park to the corner. Drivers often park right up to
the stop sign on the southeast corner. A loading zone sign on the northwest corner
discourages parking close to the corner but it still happens. New signage needs to be
installed to better designate the legal parking areas at these corners.
Per RCW 46.61.570 (1), except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic, or in
compliance with law or the directions of a police officer or official traffic control device,
no person shall:
(b) Stand or park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except momentarily to pick up or
discharge a passenger or passengers:
(iii) Within twenty feet of a crosswalk;
(iv) Within thirty feet upon the approach to any flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign, or
traffic control signal located at the side of a roadway.
A work order has been written to install signs that will better define the legal parking
areas.

At the hearing on the breed ban for pit bulls, I mentioned some other simijar. es dogs that are in
Y t$
Yakima. I was asked if I had actually seen any in Yakima. I said yes. I specificallymentioned the Dogue
de Bordeaux. In the Tuesday December 31, 2013 Yakima Herald, is a photo of a family taking a walk
with their obviously well-behaved pure bred Dogue De Bordeaux. It is also on leash.
I have attached photos from the AKC of both the Dogue de Bordeaux and the other breed I mentioned,
the Cane Corso.

AKC Meet the Breeds®
A powerful and muscular French breed, the Dogue de Bordeaux is a molossoid (mastiff -type
dog), "dogue" meaning Mastiff in French. A massive head and stocky body are trademarks of the
breed. Americans became aware of the Dogue de Bordeaux when he appeared as drooling, messy
"Hooch" in the 1989 Tom Hanks' film, Turner and Hooch. The breed's short, fine coat is fawn -
colored, ranging from a dark red to a light fawn.
A Look Back
The Dogue de Bordeaux's history is a mystery - different theories link him to the Bullmastiff,
Bulldog, Tibetan Mastiff, and the ancient Dogues de Bordeuax of Aquitaine. In any case, the
Dogue de Bordeaux has been used as a guardian, hunter and fighter. They were trained to bait
bulls, bears, and jaguars, hunt boars, herd cattle, and protect the homes and businesses of their
masters.
Cane Corso
AKC Meet the Breeds®
Noble, majestic, and powerful in presence, the Cane Corso is a muscular and large -boned breed.
One of two native Italian "mastiff type" dogs that descended from the Roman canis Pugnaces,
the breed's name derives from the Latin "Cohors" which means "Guardian" and "Protector."
The breed's coat is short but not smooth (like the coat of a cow), very coarse and thick in order to
be perfectly waterproof. It can be black, gray, fawn or red, with brindle variations and a black or
gray mask also acceptable.

A Look Back
The Cane Corso is a native of Italy. He was a property watchdog and hunted wild boar. Prior to
1988, the Cane Corso was known only in southern Italy, and was considered very rare, but has
still been featured in many paintings throughout Italy's history.
