After the presentation, Council Member Adkison requested that a copy of the presentation be given to all of the City Council Members. The list of major highlights was also shared with the Parks and Recreation Staff on December 18, 2013. The presentation also identifies the major goals of the Parks and Recreation Division for 2014. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ken Wilkinson at 576-6416. 2013 Parks & Recreation J4ccompCishments Park Maintenance Adult & Youth Recreation Aquatics & Senior Center Franklin Park Ground Breaking Ceremony and Grand Opening Ceremony for Franklin Park Rotary Project. New pavilion and playground w/two shelters. Parks & Recreation Maintenance Crew Installed over 20,000 sq. ft. of sod, redesigned irrigation systems, redirected storm drain, and installed new safety surfacing under playground at Franklin Park. Leaf A Legacy Planted numerous trees. Removed and pruned dangerous and/or dead trees throughout many different parks. JVILX Syray Park Installed the UIC for the spray park at MLK. Parking Lot Improvements Striped parking lots at Kiwanis Gateway, Gilbert, Kissel, Randall, Milroy, Gardner and Elks parks. Installed new parking lot lighting at Gilbert Park. Repaired lighting at West Valley Park. Chester(ey Park improvements Removed bleachers and concrete pads. Tilled and added over 80 yards of new topsoil on soccer complex. Reseeded field 2 and surrounding areas. Replaced irrigation filtration diaphragms. Pressure 1'Vaslier Purchased a new pressure washer for graffiti removal utilizing grant funds. Warning Signs Placed new warning signs around the pond at Kiwanis Park. youth Recreation Programs Beyond the Bell registration is up 50% from last year. Summer Day Camp was very successful and filled to capacity again this year, even with the $20 registration fee per child. Rugby Day Camp and Cheer Camp were both very successful this year. Halloween Fright Nights produced good participation numbers. Sunset Concert and Outdoor Cinema Series Franklin Park Summer Sunset Concert Series added a new TV sponsor. The concerts had over 3,000 people in attendance this year. The Summer Outdoor Cinema Series secured $3,500 in sponsorships, which allowed us to offer 6 very popular movie nights at Gilbert Park. Technofogy Members of the Parks & Recreation team have been trained on updating our new website and are becoming proficient at updating our information on a regular basis. Tami Andringa is our resident website professional. Registration for some programs and reservations for picnic shelters have been made available online to citizens. Fisher Park GoCfCourse A total of 12,785 rounds of golf were played in 2013. Over 100 children participated in the Golfin' Around program that was held as part of the Kiddin' Around program. A new family golf day was implemented on Sundays after 3:00 pm. KXDD Loyal Listener Club golfers increased by over 11% this year (1,636 in 2013 compared to 1,457 in 2012). Kiwanis / Gateway Softball/ BasebaCC The Gateway & Kiwanis sports complexes hosted 27 tournaments from March 8 — October 20. The 2013 State High School Softball 2B/1B Fastpitch Tournament, 16 youth baseball tournaments which brought in over 500 youth teams, the 2013 ASA State A&B 16U Girls Fastpitch Championships, Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) Crossover Tournament which consisted of 24 women's cc softball teams from all over the NW. One Hundred Ninety -Eight adult slowpitch teams competed in our summer softball leagues which equals 2,970 participants. Construction was completed & three new multi-purpose fields were added. The restrooms/concession stand building was opened at Kiwanis Park. 2013 projected concession stand revenues were exceeded by over $10,000. MuCt l7oCCeybaCC& Soccer Our adult volleyball leagues grew to 70 teams. We were able to maintain the co-ed soccer league, even though 5 other leagues offered co-ed divisions as well. Jiot Shots The 2013 Hot Shots 3 -on -3 Basketball Tournament had the largest number of team entries in the history of the Tournament. There were 497 youth through adult teams that played in the tournament for a total of 1,988 players. Lions PooC Increased attendance and revenue. Increased swim lesson participation. Offered weekend lap/water walking swims. yrankCin Pool Improved operating schedule to include discount evening swims and weekend lap/water walking swims. Increased revenue at the Snack Shack. Installed new outdoor entry carpet. Hosted annual volunteer appreciation dinner. Facilitated Seniors Inc. and Staff retreat. Secured Day Break and Foot Care grants through ALTC. Utilized Work Source's Back to Work Program for additional staff at no charge. Added new exercise classes. Over 250 different volunteers worked on various events.
