For Meeting of:August 17, 2021 ITEM TITLE: Resolution authorizing the Chief of Police to execute recurring annual agreements with the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration SUBMITTED BY: Rafael Sanchez, Sergeant, Yakima Police Department Bronson Faul, Senior Assistant City Attorney SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The following are annual renewals of agreements between the City of Yakima and the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration: 1) Program-Funded State and Local Task Force Agreement; 2) Addendum No. 1 to FY 2022 Program Funded State and Local Task Force Agreement; and, 3) Certifications Regarding Lobbying, Debarment, Suspension and Other Responsibility Matters; and Drug-Free Workplace Requirements. The agreements provide a more formal organization in order to centralize supervision and enhance the efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat controlled substance trafficking in the community. The agreements are on file in the City Clerk's office. R-2021- A RESOLUTION authorizing the Chief of Police's execution of recurring annual agreements with the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration. WHEREAS,the agreements are annual renewals of the parties agreements which provide a more formal organization in order to centralize supervision and enhance the efforts of the law enforcement agencies to combat controlled substance trafficking; and WHEREAS, illegal sale and use of controlled substances in the City of Yakima has serious and adverse affects on the quality of life in the City of Yakima; and WHEREAS,the City of Yakima has determined it is in the best interest of the City to devote resources in fighting the problems caused by the illegal sale and use of controlled substances; and WHEREAS, the City and USDOJ through their law enforcement agencies have maintained a cooperative working agreement designed to combat controlled substance traffic within the City of Yakima; and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City to approve the agreements, now, therefore; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The Chief of Police is authorized to execute the following agreements: Program-Funded State and Local Task Force Agreement, Addendum No. 1 to FY-2022 Program Funded State and Local Task Force Agreement, and Certifications Regarding Lobbying, Debarment, Suspension and Other Responsibility Matters; and Drug-Free Workplace Requirements which are by reference made a part hereof, such agreements are hereby approved from such date of execution.
