Moved by Stratton, seconded by Washburn that the minutes of the regular meeting of Mona day, July 17th, 1933 be approved as read: carried, Stratton, Washburn.and Clark voting aye,,.on roll call. Moved by Washburn, seconded by Stratton that the following payrolls be allowed and the City Clerk authorized to issue warrants as follows: Street Dept. $996.96; Permanent Highway $96.00; Cemetery $72.00; Cemetery Care $43.00 and Parks $55 ?.06: 'carried, Strat ton,,. - Washburn and Clark voting aye on roll call. Moved by Stratton, seconded by Clark that this being the time for canvassing the returns of the Special Election held on the 21st day of July, 1933, the following shows the re- suit thereof: CANVASS OF THE RETURNS OF THE SPECIAL - ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF YAKIMA, WASHINGTON, JULY 21, 1933• We, the undersigned, members of the City Commission of the City of Yakima, Wash- ington, having met as a canvassing board on the first Monday following the Special elec- tion held on the 21st day of July, 19331 to wit, on Monday, the .24th day of July, 1933, at the hour of 9 o'clock A. M., for the purpose of canvassing the returns of said Special election, do now hereby certify that we have carefully and completely canvassed the re- turns of all the votes cast at said.Special election for and against the proposition sub- mitted to the voters for "granting to Pacific Power & Light Company, -its successors and assigns, a franchise to construct, maintain and operate in the present and future streets alleys and public ways of the City of Yakima, and its successors, electric light and powe line and appurtenances thereto, for the purpose of supplying electricity and electric ser vice to the City of Yakima, the inhabitants thereof, and others, for a period of twenty - five years; providing for the repeal of Ordinance No. 424 of the City of North Yakima (now City of Yakima) passed December 19 1904, and approved December 20, 1904, as.pro- vided by the terms of Ordinance No. B-54,'passed and approved by the City Commission on the 24th day of June, 1933, and hereby submitted to the qualified.. voters of said city for their authorization and approval or rejection, which said franchise and proposition is more fully set forth in said Ordinance No. B-54- of said city, being the one submitted and voted upon', and we do find from the returns and votes cast at said Special election, that the number of votes cast in favor of and against the above proposition submitted in the several voting precincts of said city, is as follows, to-wit: PRECINCT NUMBER FOR THE ORDINANCE AGAINST THE ORDINANCE 13 �5 2 227 We, therefore, find and determine from the above and foregoing canvass of re -. turns that the total number of votes cast at said special election was 4,142 and the total cast in favor of the above proposition was 1,315, and the total number of votes cast against the above proposition was 2,827, and we further find and determine from the above and foregoing canvass, that the said proposition did not receive a sufficient num- ber of votes at said special election to carry the same, and we therefore declare and certify that said proposition was defeated.
