YAKIMA CITY COUNCIL
STUDY SESSION
June 22, 2021
Virtual via Zoom
5 p.m.
1. Roll Call
Present: Mayor Patricia Byers, presiding,Assistant Mayor Holly Cousens and
Councilmembers Kay Funk, Brad Hill, Soneya Lund and Eliana Macias
Staff: City Manager Robert Harrison and City Clerk Sonya Claar Tee
Absent: Councilmember Jason White
2. Public comment (allow 15 minutes)
None.
3. Traffic safety-top ten collision locations
Scott Schafer, Public Works Director, shared a PowerPoint presentation and report
reviewing the ten intersections within the City of Yakima that have been identified as having
the highest number of collisions in the past three years. Councilmembers asked questions
regarding the Transportation Benefit District(TBD)and if the American Rescue Plan Act
(ARPA)funds would be utilized for streets. Mr. Schafer noted the TBD projects were
delayed for a year due to legislative actions. City Manager Harrison reported he will be
coming back to Council at a future meeting with recommendations for the ARPA funds.
Police Captain Boyle stated they are working well with Public Works to educate the public
regarding these issues.
4. Review agenda for joint meeting with Yakima County Commissioners
Mayor Byers reported the Yakima County Commissioners would like to add a discussion on
the use of 2163 funds to the joint meeting agenda.After Council discussion,
MOTION: Cousens moved and Byers seconded to add 2163 money to the agenda
for the joint meeting. The motion carried by unanimous vote, White absent.
5. Adjournment
MOTION: Cousens moved and Lund seconded to adjourn to a Special City Council
meeting on June 29, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. via Zoom. The motion carried by unanimous vote,
White absent. The meeting adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
