The minutes of the regular meeting of Monday, May 7, 1951, were approved as read. Moved by nuey, seconded by Burns, that this being the time for receiving bids for con- structing curbs and gutters on 13th Avenue South in L.I.D. No. 720, the following were received: Perry Hayes `20,014.65; Joe Brandt $17,539.76; J. M. DeBlasio $16,671.37; D. T. Gallagher $16,251.89: the bid of D. T. Gallagher was accepted as the lowest and best bid, and the Mayor and City Clerk authorized,to enter into .a contract on behalf of the City of Yakima for doing said work upon receipt of the proper bond as required by law: carried Burns, Carpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. Moved by Huey, seconded by Carpenter, that this being the time for the adjourned hear- ing on Resolution No. C -969, providing for the improvement of 5th Avenue South from Lenox to Viola and Logan Avenue from 7th Avenue to 10th Avenue South by constructing curbs and gutters, and there being insufficient protest against said improvement or any part thereof; It is ordered that Ordinance No. B -1244, creating L.I.D.. No. 721, be passed as read: carried Burns, 'Carpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -1244, providing for the improvement of certain property by grading, ballasting, surfacing and constructing concrete curbs and gutters; establishing a Local Improvement District, providing for the method of payment therefor, and creating a special fund. Loved by Huey, seconded by Burns, that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute a deed to Yakima County for the north thirty feet of the S2 of the S2 of the NE-1 of the NEI of Section 35, Township 13, Range 18 E.,W.M., to be used for road purposes, in the sum of $300.00: carried Burns, Carpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. Loved by Huey, seconded by Burns, that the City of Yakima enter into an agreement with Willie Johnson, in the sum of $100.00 per month, payable in advance, commencing June 1, 1951 for one year, for the privilege of sorting out and removing all materials desired by purchaser which has salvage value from the City dump grounds: carried Burns, Carpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. Moved by Huey, seconded by Carpenter, that the compulsory retirement of H. J. Jacobus as of August 1, 1951, be extended for a period of two years as provided by law: carried Burns, Carpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. Moved by Huey, seconded by Carpenter, that Harper D. Grimes, be and he is hereby appointed to the office of Superintendent.of the Water Department vacated by N. A. Gilman, who retired on August 1, 1950; said appointment of Mr. Grimes to date from August 1, 1950 and to continue during the pleasure of the City Commission: carried Burns, Carpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. Loved by Huey, seconded by Carpenter, that the resignation of Harlan Jones, Superintend- ent at -Tahoma Cemetery, to take effect August 1, 1950, is hereby accepted and the appointment of Lloyd Noblett to succeed Mr. Jones is hereby approved; said appointment of Mr. Noblett to continue during the pleasure of the City !Commission: carried Burns, Carpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. Moved by Carpenter, seconded by Huey, that the services of Champ Sanford, Manager of Municipal Airport, be discontinued as of May 10, 1951: carried Carpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. Burns voting no. Moved by Carpenter, seconded by 11uey, that Burgess Carratt be, and he is hereby appoint- ed Manager of Municipal Airport: said appointment to commence May 10, 1951 and to con- tinue during the pleasure of the 'City Commission: carried Burns, Carpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. RESOLUTION NO. C -972, WHEREAS, it is for the best interests of the City of Yakima,' in routing its highway traffic, to straighten and extend South Sixth Street in said City; and 1NHEREAS, the follovi ng described property, to -wit: The West Half of Lot 1, The Fairchild Acre Tracts; according to the plat thereof recorded in Volume A cf Plats, page 115, records of Yakima County, Wash- ington;: has been necessary for such purpose; and the owners thereof, Charles H. Hildreth and Annie Hildreth, husband and wife,. have offered to sell said premises to the City of Yakima for the sum of $2,500.00; and it appears that said sum is the f air • and reasonable market value of said premises; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COP,'- diISSION OF TIME .CITY OF YAKIMA: That it is for the best interests of the City of Yakima to pur- chase from Charles H. Hildreth and Annie Hildreth, husband and wife, the follovi ng de- scribed premises, situate in Yakima County, Washington, to -wit: The Iffest Half of Lot 1, The Fairchild Acre Tracts; according to the plat thereof recorded in Volume A of Plats, page 115, records of Yakima ,County, Washington. for the price of $2,500.00, for the purpose of extending South Sixth Street in the City of Yakima; and the City Treasurer is hereby authorized, empowered and directed to issue a warrant upon the proper fund of the City of Yakima, in payment of the purchase price of said property. Moved by Huey, seconded by Burns, that the City,Engineer having checked on the protest of property owners at the hearing on Resolution No. C -970, heretofore had _on Monday, May 14, 195.1, and there being insufficient protest by said property owners against said improvement; It is ordered that Ordinance No. B -1245, creating a local improve- ment district, be passed as read: carried Burns, • arpenter and Huey voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -1245, providing for the improvement of certain property by grading, ballasting, surfacing and constructing concrete curbs and gutters, and concrete side- walks, five feet in width; establishing a Local Improvement District, providing for the met'r.od of payment therefor, and creating a special fund.
