HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/26/1958 Business Meeting320 FEBRUARY 26, 1958 The City Commission met in regular session, Mayor Alderson and Commissioners Schutt and Mathews and Assistant Attorney Carl Loy present on roll call. The Minutes of the meeting of February 19, 1958, were approved as read. This being the time for hearing on Resolution No. C -1562 which provides for improvement by grading, ballasting, surfacing and constructing concrete curbs and gutters on Fourth Avenue from Pine Street to Division Street and other streets fully set forth therein and there being a number of protests registered against the formation of some parts of the district, it was moved by Mathews and seconded by Alderson that the ordinance creat- ing said Local Improvement District be tabled until the next regular meeting of the City Commission on March 5, 1958: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. This being the time for hearing on the petition of`the Metropolitan Park District for annexing property beginnin at the Northwest corner of Block 18, Plat of Section 36, Township 13 North, Range 19 E.W.M., as recorded in Volume E of Plats, page 36, Records of Yakima County, Washington, and there being no objections to said annexation or any part thereof, it was moved by Mathews, seconded by Alderson that Ordinance No. B -213$ providing for the annexation, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -2138, AN ORDINANCE providing for the annexation by the City of Yakima, Washington, of certain property contiguous to the City of Yakima, Washington. Bids having been received February 19, 1958 for the purchase of Industrial Waste Meters and Recorders, it was moved by Mathews and seconded by Schutt that the recommendation of Sam Hobbs, City Engineer, be accepted and the awards be made as follows: ITEM 1 and 2 - to Fischer & Porter Company in amount of $971$.50 ( subject to the condition that they file with the City Clerk prior to March 5, 1958, a certified check in amount of 5% of the total award to assure delivery in Yakima not later than May 30, 1958 ) ITEM #3 to Foxboro (Bumford- Woolford Co.) in amount of $1087.07 carried: Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that Resolution No. C -1566 appointing Donald A. Arveson Electrical Inspector for the City of Yakima, be passed as read: carried, Alder- son, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. RESOLUTION NO. C -1566, A RESOLUTION appointing an Electrical Inspector for the City of Yakima. WHEREAS, a vacancy exists in the office of the Electrical Inspector by reason of the illness and absence of Melvin Gee; and WHEREAS, Donald A. Arveson has been acting as Electrical Inspect- or since February ll, 1957, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: That DONALD A. ARVESON be, and he is hereby appointed Electrical Inspector, and whiles serving as such Electrical Inspector shall have all the powers and perform all the duties of the Electrical Inspector, and serve in that capacity at the pleasure of the City Commission. of February, 1958. Alderson Mayor Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that the City Clerk be authorized to advertise for bids for 100,000 pounds of Liquid Chlorine for the City of Yakima Water Department,said bids to be submitted in two parts, one bid in deliveries in 150 lb. cylinders or in 2000 lb. drums to be picked up at point of delivery, second bid to be in 15 ton carload lots, F.O.B.Yakima, said bids to be received up to the hour of 10 o'clock a.m. on Wed- nesday the 12th day of March, 195$: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that the City Clerk be authorized to call for bids for comprehensive liability and property damage insurance and fire and theft on city owned equipment, said bids to be received at the hour of 10 o'clock a.m. on Wednesday,. the 12th day of March 1958: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. An Ordinance, adopting with exceptions.the Uniform Building Code, 1958 edition, was read by the City Clerk and after some discussion it was moved by Mathews and seconded by Alderson that this ordinance be laid on the table and considered at the next regular meeting of the City Commission on March 5, 1958 at the hour of 10 o'clock a.m.: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. An Ordinance read for the first time on February 19 and now having its second reading by the Clerk, it was moved by Mathews, seconded by Alderson that Ordinance No. B -2139 pro- viding for the expenditure of $3409.11 in the Tahoma Cemetery Department not provided for in the 1957 budget, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. 1 11 1 1 I. B -21391 AN ORDINANCE providing for the expenditure of funds in the Tahoma Cemetery Department not provided for in the 1957 Budget, and declaring an emergency: Moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that we do now adjourn to meet again in regular session on Wednesday, the 5th day of March, 1958: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
