HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/19/1958 Business MeetingIL FEBRUARY. 19, 1958 The City Commission met in 'regular session, Mayor Alderson and Commissioners Schutt and Mathews and Assistant Attorney Carl Loy present on roll call: The Minutes of the meeting of February 13, 1958, were approved as read. This being the time for receiving bids on Metering Device for the Industrial Waste the following bids were received: H. D. Fowler Company, Seattle Foxboro Company t' Fischer & Porter Co. it $1,878.60 950.67 1,030.20 Moved by Mathews and seconded by Alderson that the bids be referred to Sam Hobbs, City Engineer, for recapitulation and recommendation: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye'on roll call. This being the time for receiving bids for doing the city printing and advertising for the ensuing year ending the third Wednewday in February, 1959, and the bid of the Republ Publishing Company being the only bid received at the rate of $1.30 per column inch, it was moved by Mathews and seconded by Alderson that said bid be accepted, and the Mayor and City Clerk authorized to execute an agreement on behalf -of the City of Yakima with the Republic Publishing Company for doing such work; carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Bids having been received February 13, 1958 for the.purchase of pipe and fittings for the Irrigation Department for use in construction of the 24th Avenue South Irrigation Dist- rict, L.I.D. No. $61, it was moved by Mathews.and seconded by Schutt that the bid of H. D. Fowler Company of Seattle in amount of $2061.19, being the lowest and best bid, be awarded in accordance with the recommendation of the Superintendent of the Irrigation Department: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by Mathews., seconded by Schutt that Ordinance No. B -2135 fixing the time of delinquency and prescribing the form of bonds for L.I.D. No. 854, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE 'N0. B -2135, AN ORDINANCE fixing the time of delinquency of installments of assessments levied for the payment of the cost of the improvement in local improvement district No. 854, and providing for the issuance of bonds with coupons attached for the payment of the unpaid portion thereof. Moved by Mathews, seconded by Alderson that Ordinance No. B -2136 relating to and regulat- ing the installation of side sewers, prescribing license fees qnd permits for contractors and repealing conflicting ordinances,be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -2136, AN ORDINANCE relating to and regulating the installation of side sewers; creating an examining board for side sewer contractors or installers; defining certain terms; establishing regulations for the installation, alteration, or repair of side sewers and the inspection thereof; requiring licenses and pe rmits;prescribing fees; providing penalties for its violation; and repealing conflicting ordinances. . Moved by Mathews and seconded by Alderson that Ordinance No. B -2137 relating to and regulating plumbing, prescribing license fees and permits for contractors, and repealing Ordinance B -99, known as the Plumbing Code and all other conflicting ordinances, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -2137, AN ORDINANCE relating to and regulating plumbing; including prov- isions relating to the water supply and drainage in plumbing systems; creating an examin- ing board for plumbers; defining certain terms; establishing regulations for the instal- lation, alteration, or repair of plumbing and drainage systems and the inspection thereof; requiring licenses and permits; prescribing fees; providing penalties for its violation; and repealing conflicting ordinances. An Ordinance providing for the expenditure of $3409.11 in-the Tahoma Cemetery Department not provided for in the 1957 Budget, and declaring an emergency, was read for the first time and laid on the table to be read again at the next regular meeting of the City Commission on Wednesday, the 26th day of February, 1958: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by Schutt and seconded by Alderson that the City Clerk be and is hereby authorized to call for bids for the purchase-of three new police cars for the City of Yakima Police Department, said bids to be received and considered on the 5th day of March, 1958, at the hour of 10:00 a.m.: Alderson and Schutt voting aye. Mathews voting nay. The City Commission having tabled the awarding of bids received February 5, 1958, for the purchase of salt for the Street Department, pending the City Attorney's opinion as to whether said purchase could be made in October of 1958, using these bids and the City Attorney ruling against such procedure, it was moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that said bids be rejected: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Commissioner Mathews presented a Resolution regarding the preparation of a comprehensive drainage plan in certain areas of the City of Yakima and made a motion for said Resolut- ion to be passed. The motion died for want of a second. Moved by Schutt and seconded by Mathews that we do now adjourn to meet again in regular session on Wednesday, the 26th day of February, 1958: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
