OCTOBER 8, 1958
The City Commission met in regular session, Mayor Alderson, Commissioners Schutt and
Mathews and City Attorney Arntson present on roll call.
The minutes of the regular meeting of October 1, 1958 were approved as read.
This being the
time for feceiving bids for the
construction of two
(2) domestic water
wells, #4 and
#5, and the following bids having
been received

it was MOVED by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that said bids be referred to the City
Engineer for recommendation: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll
call.
This being the time for receiving bids for the purchase of 50 tons more or less of
special stoker coal and the following -bids having been received

it was MOVED by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that said bids be referred to the Street
Engineer for recommendation: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll
call.
A claim for damages having been duly filed by. A. L. Dormaier who resides at 1017 South
17th Ave., said damage resulting from an adjacent sewer stopping and backing up into
the side sewer of the claimants causing damage to rugs and pad in the amount of $49.60,
it was MOVED by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that Resolution No. C -1623 authorizing pay-
ment of said claim from the Water Sewer Fund, be passed as read: carried, Alderson,
Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
RESOLUTION NO. C -1623, WHEREAS, a claim for damages has been timely filed against the
City of Yakima by A.Z. Dormaier, in the sumcf $49.60, arising from damages sustained
when the sewer in the vicinity of premises owned and maintained by said claimant be-
came stopped and backed up into claimant +s premises, on the 11th day of August,:'1958,
and
WHEREAS, it is deemed to be in the best interest of the City of
.Yakima to allow said claim,
NOWs THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF YAKIMA:
That the claim of A. L. Dormaier in the sum of $49.60 be, and
the same is hereby, allowed and approved in said amount and the City Clerk of the City
of Yakima is hereby authorized and directed to issue a warrant in payment of said claim,
chargeable against the Water -Sewer Fund; provided however, that the said City Clerk shall
not deliver said warrant to said claimant until a release is executed and filed with tle
City Clerk by the above named claimant`, relieving and releasing the City from any
additional and further liability in connection with this subject matter.

An ordinance amending Ordinance No. B -2095 known as the zoning code in accordance with
recommendations submitted by the Planning Commission, was read by the City Clerk and
ordered laid on the table for one week, to be reconsidered at the next regular meeting
of the City Commission on October 15, 1958.

it was MOVED by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that the City Clerk be and is hereby
authorized and directed to draw the necessary warrants in payment of said estimates:
carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that Resolution No. C -1624 authorizing the Water
department to have the settling ponds at the city water works cleaned and to expend in
excess of $500.00 without calling for bids for said project, be passed as read: carried
Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
RESOLUTION NO. C -16242 A RESOLUTION authorizing the Water Department-to clean the
settling ponds and to expend in excess of 0500.00 without calling for bids.
WHEREAS, cleaning settleing ponds at city water works is im-
mediately required for propertmaintenance and the public health and safety, and

WHEREAS, an emergency is hereby declared to exist requiring
immediate need for said cleaning-of settling ponds at city water works,
NOW, THEREFORE,-BE IT RESOLVED B' THE CITY COMMISSION -OF THE
CITY OF YAKIMA
Section 1. That the Public Works Supervisor be, and he hereby
is, authorized, without'calli.ng for bids, to have settleing ponds at city water works
cleaned.
Section 2.- That an emergency exists by reason of the fact that
said settleing ponds have from two to four feet of mud and slime and this resolution is
necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety.

October 6, 1958 or Monday of this week being the date set for public hearings on the
1959 budget and the Chamber of Commerce Budget .Committee and others havink.been heard on
that date and the Chamber of Commerce Budget Committee and others.asking to be heard
again on the 1959 Budget, the balance of this_ regular meeting was devoted to discussion
of the proposed 1959 budget for the City of Yakima.
Moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that we do now adjourn to meet again at the hour
of 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 99 1958: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews
voting aye on roll call.
ADJOURNED MEETING, THURSDAY, OCTO EER 9, 1958s, 2:30P.M.

Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that Resolution No. C -1625 authorizing the purchas-
ing department to purchase firehose real conversion kits and to expend in excess of
$500.00 without calling for bids, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and
Mathews voting aye on roll call.
RESOLUTION NO. C -16250 A RESOLUTION authorizing the Purchasing Department to purchase
firehose reel conversion kits and to-expend in excess of $500-00-without calling for
bids.
WHEREAS, four firehose reel conversion kits are immediately re-
quired by the Fire Department for proper maintenance and the public health and safety,
and
WHEREAS, an emergency is hereby declared to exist requiring
immediate need for said four firehose reel conversion kits at request of Fire Department;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. That the Purchasing Agent be, and he hereby is,
authorized, without calling for bids, to purchase four firehose reel conversion kits for
the City of Yakima Fire Department at a cost not to exceed $630.00.
Section 2. That an emergency exists by reason of the fact that
said four firehose reel conversion kits are necessary for the immediate preservation
of-public peace, health and safety.

Public hearings having been held on Monday and Wednesday of this week .on the proposed
1959 Budget and certain adjustments having been made in.the budgets of the Police and
Fire Departments, it was MOVED by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that Ordinance No. B -2205
adopting a budget for the City of Yakima for the ensuing year, appropriating funds for
the e-stimated expenditures and fixing and levying the taxes necessary to YE.ance the
estimated revenues, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting
aye on roll call.
ORDINANCE -NO. B* 2205s AN ORDINANCE adopting a budget for the City of Yakima, Washi.ngtoi
for the year of 1959, appropriating funds for the estimated expenditures, and fixing and
levying the amount of taxes necessary to balance the estimated revenues with the estimat-
ed expenditures.
Moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that we do now adjourn to meet again in regular
session at the hour of 10 o'clock a.m. on Wednesday the 15th day of October, 1958:
