The City Commission met in regular session, Mayor Alderson and Commissioners Schutt and
Mathews and Assistant City Attorney Carl Loy present on roll call.
Minutes of the rgeet:ing of February 26, 1958, were approved as read.
This being the time for receiving bids for the purchase of crushed rock for the Street
Department, the following bids were received:
DeAtley Paving & Crushing Inc. $10,135.00
Columbia Asphalt Paving Company 3,000.00
Yakima Cement Products Company 61100.00
C & E Construction Company 52$50.00
Superior Concrete Company 6,420.00
It was moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that said bids be referred to John Mayo,
Street Engineer, for recapitulation and recommendation at the next regular meeting of th
Commission on March 12, 1958: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll
call.
This being the time for receiving bids for the purchase of three cars for the City of
Yakima Police Department, the following bids were received:

it was moved by Schutt and seconded by Alderson that the bids be referred to Oscar
Soderstrom, Police Chief, for recommendation at the next regular meeting of the City
Commission on March 12, 1958: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll
call.
The City Engineer reporting on the protests registered against Resolution No. C -1562,
being a resolution of intention to improve 4th Avenue and other streets and the Engineer
reporting the percentage of protests as follows:

ORDINANCE No. B -2140, AN ORDINANCE providing for the improvement of certain property by
grading, ballasting„ surfacing, constructing concrete curbs and gutters, sidewalks,
establishing a Local Improvement District, providing for the method of payment thereof,
and creating a special fund.
Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that Ordinance No. B -2141 adopting the.Uniform
Building Code, 1958 edition, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews
voting aye on roll call.
ORDINANCE NO. B -2141, AN ORDINANCE regulating erection, construction, enlargement,
alteration, repair, moving, removal, conversion, demolition, occupancy, equipment, use,
height, area and maintenance of buildings and /or structures in the City of Yakima;
providing for the issuance of permits and collection of fees therefor; declaring and
establishing fire districts, adopting with certain exceptions the Uniform Building Code,
1958 Edition; providing exceptions, penalties for the violation thereof, and repealing
all ordinances and /or parts of ordinances in conflict therewith.
Moved by Schutt, seconded by Alderson that Ordinance No. B -2142 amending Section 2 of
Ordinance No. B -2070 and creating a special fund known as the "Shop Fund ", be. passed
as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
ORDINANCE NO. B -2142, AN ORDINANCE amending Section 2 of Ordinance No. B -2070, entitled
"An Ordinance creating a special fund to be known as the "Shop Fund" and providing for
special expenditures therefrom; abolishing the Gas and Oil Fund and providing for the
transfer of the remaining balance in said fund to the Shop Fund; repealing Ordinance No.
B -636 and Resolution No. C- 110311, and declaring an emergency.
Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that Ordinance No. B -2143 consolidating the Auto
Equipment Maintenance, Gas, Oil, and Grease items within the Maintenance and Operation
classification within the 1958 appropriation of the Street Department, be passed as read:
carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
ORDINANCE NO. B- 2143, AN ORDINANCE consolidating the Auto Equipment Maintenance and Gas,
Oil, and Grease items within the Maintenance and Operation classification within the
1958 appropriation of-the Street Department, and declaring an emergency.
An Ordinance providing funds for storm sewer in the vicinity of 29th Avenue and Lincoln
Avenue, said ordinance being an emergency was read for the first time by the City Clerk

and laid on the table for one week to be read again at the next regular meeting of the
City Commission on March 12, 195$•
The City Engineer reporting work performed on city projects during the month as follows:

it was moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that the above estimates be accepted and
the City Clerk authorized to issue warrants in payment of same: carried, Alderson,
Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
The City Clerk read a statement of charges from the Statewide City Employees Retirement
System and it was moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that the $$2,112.32 to cover the
1958 charges be deducted from the cityts balance held with the Statewide Retirement
System: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that the City Clerk be and is hereby authorized
to call for bids for the sale of salvage at the dump grounds and the City Attorney
instructed to prepare an agreement to cover the same: carried, Alderson, Schutt and
Mathews voting aye on roll call.
A letter from the State, County, and Municipal Employees Union was read by the City
Clerk requesting approval of a payroll deduction of union dues oh a voluntary basis.
Moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that the City Clerk make such deductions as
requested, provided no bookkeeping problems are involved: carried, Alderson, Schutt
and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
Moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that.we do now adjourn to meet, again in regular
session on Wednesday, the 12th day of " .March---,..-, 195$ at the hour of 10:00 a.m.: carried,
