SEPTEMBER ,25, 1957
The City Commission met in regular session, Mayo - ,Alderson, Commis,sioners Schutt and
Mathews and Assistant City Attorney Loy present on roll call.
The minutes of the regular meeting of September 18, 1957 and the adjourned meeting
thereof were approved as read.
This being the time for the hearing on Resolution No. C -1509 praying for the vacation
of Washington Avenue and the protests having been heard, it was MOVED by Schutt,
seconded by Mathews that Ordinance.No.. B -2080 providing for said vacation, be passed
as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
ORDINANCE NO.-B-2080, AN ORDINANCE providing for the vacation of the street in the
City of Yakima mentioned and described as follows, to -wit: Beginning at a point 20,
East of the Southwest corner of the Southwest corner of the Southeast Quarter of the
Northeast Quarter of Section 34, Township 13 North, Range 18 E.W.M., said point being
the point of intersection of the centerline of Washington Avenue with the Easterly line
of Sorenson Road extended northerly; thence Easterly along said center line of Washingt
Avenue 2613.01 to a point which is 1313.51 Easterly from the West Quarter corner of
Section 35, Township 13 North, Range 18 E.W.M.; in Yakima County, Washington, being a
portion of Washington Avenue, in Yakima, Washington, and declaring an emergency.
A hearing having been held September 4, 1957 on Resolution No. C -1505, being a resolu-
tion of intention to cover the P.P. & L. -Ditch and the Old Union Ditch Company Canal,
and considerable protest having been registered at said hearing, and further considera-
tion having been given to,said project on September 18, 1957 at which time it was set
aside to be further considered on this date in order that Commissioner Mathews might
explain an alternate plan and Commissioner Mathews and City Engineer Hobbs now explain-
ing a proposal by which the City would participate in said improvement in the amount of
$10,000..00, total amount of the project amounting to $48,000.00 and more protests being
registered on the new proposal, it was MOVED by Alderson, seconded by Schutt that the
Ordinance creating a local improvement district for this project, be rejected: carried
Alderson, and Schutt voting aye on roll call. Mathews voting nay.
The City Engineer having reported the completion of the Buwalda Lane Curb and Gutter
District,by:,the contractor, being L.I.D. No. 847, it was MOVED by Mathews, seconded by
Schutt that said work be and is hereby accepted and the City Engineer instructed to
prepare the assessment roll for said district and the City Clerk be and is'hereby
instructed to give notice of hearing on said roll by publication and notice to-'each
property owner as required by law, said hearing to be held on Wednesday the 16th day of
October, at the hour of 10 o1clock a.m..: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting
aye on roll call. f
Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that Ordinance No. B -2081 amending Ordinance No.
B -224 and making the City Engineer a member of the Planning Commission rather than a
non - voting ex- officio member as previously established by ordinance: carried, Alderson,
Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
ORDINANCE NO. B -20812 AN ORDINACE amending Ordinance No. B -224, passed and approved -
August 16, 1937 and.as amended by Ordinance No. B -1899, passed and approved June 25,
1956; said Ordinance B -224 entitled "AN ORDINANCE creating a Planning Commission for
the City of Yakima, providing for the powers and duties of such Commission, repeali ng
Ordinance No. A -893 and declaring an emergency."
Moved by Alderson, seconded by Schutt that City Employees be granted the priviledge of
payroll deductions in connection with their United Good Neighbor Donation: carried,
Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that John Mayo be and is hereby appointed,to the
position of Traffic Engineer comencing immediately and to continue during the pleasure
of the City Commission: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
Moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that we do now,adj'ourn to meet again in regular
session on Wednesday the 2nd day of October, 1957, `at the hour of 10 o'clock a.m.:
