HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/18/1957 Business MeetingF7_ 00 FEBRUARY 18, 1957 The City Commission met in regular session, Mayor Alderson, Commissioners Schutt and Mathews and Assistant Attorney Carl Loy present on roll call. The minutes of the regular meeting of February 11, 1957 were approved as read. Moved by Mathews, seconded by Alderson that Ordinance No. B -2001 relating to the removal of trees, signs and other obstructions which interfere with public travel be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -2001, AN ORDINANCE relating to the removal of trees, shrubbery,- signs and other obstructions which interfere with public travel; providing for notice and for removal by the.city after notice to the owner of the property affected; providing for recovery of costs or removal by the City, and creating a lien upon property affected. This being the time for hearing on the assessment roll for Local Improvement District No. 837, the King Street Irrigation District, and there being no protests in writing or otherwise, it was MOVED by Mathews, seconded.by-Schutt that Ordinance No. B -2002 confirming said assessment roll and every part thereof be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -2002. AN ORDINANCE.confirming the assessment roll covering Local Improvement District No. $37 as created and established by Ordinance No. B -18612 of the Ordinances of the City of Yakima. This being the time for receiving bids for doing the city printing and advertising for the ensuing year, and the -bid of the Republic Publishing Company being the only bid received in the sum of $1.30 per column inch; it was MOVED by Schutt, seconded by Alderson that said bid be accepted, and the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute an agreement on behalf of the City of Yakima with the Republic Publishing Company, for doing said work: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. This being the time for receiving bids on the Asphalt Pressure Distributor Spray Bar and Pump Assembly for the Street Department, the following bids were received - Howard Cooper Corporation 93,600.00 plus sales tax Jack Sahlberg Equipment Company $4,336.50 plus sales tax Clyde Equipment Company $4,916.00 plus 3- 113% sales tax Since bids received were greatly in excess of the amount budgeted for said equipment, it was deemed advisable to investigate possibility of the purchase of a used bar and no action was taken on these bids. The 1956 Lease made and entered into between the City of Yakima and L. H. Sanford expiring as of February 20, 1957, said lease covering property located at the sewage disposal plant, it was moved by Mathews and seconded by Schutt that said lease be renewed and the Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute said lease on behalf of the City of Yakima: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that the City Clerk be and is hereby authorized to call for bids for the sale of a 1925 Stutz 1,000 gallon per minute pumper by the City of Yakima;:: said bids to be received and considered on Monday, March 11, 1957, at the hour of 10 o'clock a.m.; carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. An Ordinance having been passed January 28, 1957, being Ordinance No. B -19.92 granting D. Si. Peck a non - exclusive franchise to operate a motor coach transportation system over the streets of the City of Yakima, it was moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that the formal acceptance by D. S. Peck be made a part of these minutes: rr ACCEPTANCE OF ORDINANCE NUMBERED B -1992 I, D. S. PECK, now of Scranton, Pennsylvania, for myself, my successors and assigns, do hereby unqualifiedly accept Ordinance numbered B -1992 of the City of Yakima, passed January 28, 1957, granting me a non - exclusive franchise for fifteen (15) ,years, for a Motor Coach Transportation System in Yakima, and upon approval of said Ordinance by a majority of the voter's of Yakima, at a special election to be held March 26, 1957, I will provide the transportation system over the streets of the City of Yakima, as provided in said ordinance. Koester t1 Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that the City Clerk is hereby instructed to call for bids for the construction of an irrigation system L.I.D.852, said bids to be received on Monday, the 4th day of March at the hour of 10 o'clock a.m..; carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. . In accordance with the Statewide City Employees Retirement System law, it was moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that the employment of Harry Leibold and Edward Montz. be extended for-one year, or until March 1, 1958: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that we do now adjourn, to meet again in regular session at the hour of 10 o'clock a.m. on Monday, February 25, 1957: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call.
