HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/21/1957 Business Meetingi 1 1 ,4. 1 JANUARY 21, 1957 The City Commission met in regular session, Mayor Alderson, Commissioners Schutt and Mathews and Assistant City Attorney Loy present on roll call. The minutes of the regular meeting of January 14, 1957 were approved as read. An ordinance prepared by V. 0. Nichoson, legal advisor. for.D. S. Peck, now of Scranton Pensylvania, granting non - exclusive franchise for a term of 15 years to establish main- tain and operate a motor coach transportation system over the streets of the City of Yakima for the transportation of passengers and mail for hire as a common carrier, was read for the first time by the City Clerk and ordered to be read the second time on January 28, 1957• This being the time for receiving bids on Diesel Fuel, Motor Oil, Kerosene, Gear Oil, Chasis Lube Grease, Bitumuls Seal Kote Salvent, P.S. 300 Heating Oil, MC -2 and MC -3, bids were received from the following companys, Standard Oil Company, Union Oil Company, Utah Oil Company, Western Fuel Company, Tidewater Oil Company, Ken Fields Oil Company, The Texas Company and Shell Oil Company. Moved by Schutt, seconded by Alderson that the bids be referred to the City Engineers office for tabulations and recommendation: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews, voting aye on roll call. This being the time for the hearing on the petition of E. R. Sandmeyer and others to vacate the northeasterly 20 feet of Park Avenue adjoining Tract 20 of Yakima Heights Residence Tracts, according to the plat thereof recorded in Volume A of •Plats, page 87, records of Yakima County Washington, except any portions thereof lying in 18th Avenue North and Park Lane, and there being no objections in writing or otherwise to said vacation proceedings, it was MOVED by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that Ordinance No. ?. B -1987 yacatinggsaid property and every part thereof, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -19870 AN ORDINANCE providing for the vacation.of the street in the City of Yakima mentioned and described as follows, to -wit: The Northeasterly 20 feet of Park Avenue. adjoining.Tract 20 of Yakima Heights Residence Tracts, according to the plat thereof recorded in Volume A of Plats, page 87, Records of Yakima County, Washington, except any portions thereof lying in 18th Avenue North and Park Lane. Moved b Mathews, seconded by Alderson that' the bid of C & E Construction Company in the sum of 41,435.00 for the construction of curbs, butters and surfacing for L.I.D. 847, being the lowest and best bid, be accepted and the Mayor and City Clerk-authorized to execute a contract on behalf of the City of Yakima for doing said work upon the filing of the proper bond as regired by law: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by Mathews, seconded by Alderson that the bid of C & E Construction in the sum of $17,017.25, for the construction of curbs, gutters and surfacing for L.I.D. 848, being the lowest and best bid, be accepted.and the Mayor and City Clerk authorized to execute a contract on behalf of the City of takima for doing said work upon the filing of the proper bond as required by law: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. The City Engineer having reported the completion of the construction of the Fifth Avenue South Domestic Water District, L.I.D. 833, by the contractor, it was MOVED by Mathews, recorded by Schutt that the City Engineer be instructed to prepare the assessment roll for said district and the City Clerk be and is hereby authorized to give notice of hearing on said assessment roll for the 11th day of February, 1957s at the hour of 10 o'clock a.m.: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by kiathews, seconded by Schutt that Ordinance No. B -1988 fixing the time of de- linquency of installments and prescribing the form of bonds for L.I.D. No. 821, be passe( as read: carried, Alderson., Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -1988, AN ORDINANCE fixing the time of delinquency of installments of assessments levied for the payment of the cost of the improvement in Local Improvement District No. 821, and providing for the issuance of bonds wi th coupons attached for the payment of the unpaid portion thereof. Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that Ordinance No. B -1989 fixing the time of de- linquency of installments and prescribing the form of bonds for L.I.D. No. 826, be.passe as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCENNO. B -19891 AN ORDINANCE fixing the time of delinquency of installments of assessments levied for the payment of the cost of the improvement in Local Improvement District No. 826, and providing for the issuance of bonds with coupons attached for the payment of the unpaid portion thereof. Moved by Mathews, seconded by Alderson that Ordinance No. B -1990 providing for the acquisition by condemnation or purchase of the East 15 feet of the North 381.6 feet of the South 411.6 feet of the Southeast Quarter of'the Southeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of Section 13, Township 13 North, Range 18, E.W,M. for the purpose of grading widening and surfacing and.otherwise improving Buwalda Lane, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. ORDINANCE NO. B -1990, AN ORDINANCE providing for the acquisition by condemnation or purchase of certain real property situate in the City of Yakima, Washington, more particularly described below, for the purpose of grading, widening and surfacing and otherwise improving'Buwalda Lane; providing for the method of payment therefor; and declaring an emergency. Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that Ordinance No. B -1991 relating to and regulatinj travel trafftte and transportation and their incidence upon the streets and other ways open to the public and amending Ordinance No. B -1526, be passed as read: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. "192 JANUARY 21,.1957 The Secretary of Statewide City Employees Retirement System, having reported the re- tirement dates of Vernon B; Armstrong and Floyd W. Taylor to be February 1, 1957 and these two employees having requested an extension of their employment, it was MOVED by Mathews, secorded by Alderson that their employment"be extended in accordance with the Retirement Law: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by Mathews, seconded by Schutt that the City Clerk be and is hereby authorized to call for bids for crushed rock for 1957 Street Department operations as per specifica- tions prepared by the City Engineer, bids to be received at 8 o'clock p:m. on the 4th day of February, 1957: carried, Alderson, Schutt and Mathews voting aye on roll call. Moved by Schutt, seconded by Mathews that we do now adjourn to meet again in regular session at the hour of -10 o'clock a.m. on Monday the 28th day of February, 1957: carried, Alderson,•Schutt and Mathews•yoting - aye, on-,toll call.
