Pendleton.Blvd. SUBMITTED BY: Steve Osguthorpe, AICP, Community Development Director Royale Schneider, Code Inspection Office Supervisor, (509) 576 -6669 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Attached is a copy of the street renaming application submitted on June 18, 2013 by the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 379 to rename A Street to Sgt. Pendleton Blvd. Per Yakima Municipal Code 8.70, Council shall consider petitions to rename streets at a regularly scheduled Council Meeting and make an initial determination of whether the petition is a valid request that should be considered at a public hearing. If so, City Council shall schedule a time, date and place for the public hearing. Upon scheduling the public hearing, all property owners abutting the street shall be notified of the public hearing, which shall precede the hearing date by no less than thirty (30) days. After the public hearing, if Council deems the proposal to be in the best interest of the City of Yakima, they shall approve said request by Resolution. A Resolution approving a renamed street shall take effect six months from the date of the Resolution. Should Council decide to proceed with the public process established in YMC 8.70, to review street name change applications, the next step would be for Council to set a public hearing on this proposed name change. Staff recommends a hearing date of August 20, 2013 to allow time for mailing of notices, which must be received "no less than 30 days" prior to the hearing, and to allow time for the recipients to comment on the proposal.
