` grEc7 EAS, all citizens regardless of race, creed or ethnicity deserve to be treated with
dignity, respect, compassion, andjustice; and
WHEREAS, each act of racism or discrimination is one too many; and
WHEREAS, racism can take many different forms, including but not limited to
discrimination;personal attacks, including violence; written or verbal threats or insults; and
damage to property, including graffiti; and
WHEREAS, racism and discrimination hurts everyone; and
'WHEREAS, because racism hurts everyone, (YWCAs across the nation have taken a
stand against racism to raise people's consciousness that racism stille.xists in many forms; and
WHEREAS, the elimination of racism can only be achieved through the participation
of all citizens in dialogue, reflection, and action; and
WHEREAS, our shared goat is to advocate for increased awareness of the lasting and
negative effects of racism in our communities, institutions, and personal relationships; and
'WHEREAS, the persistence and pervasiveness of racism divides our community and
keeps individuals from achieving success in education, economics, employment, and quality of
life.
WOW, 2JREcREcFOcRE, in recognition of the impact that racism has on the health and
weft-being of our community, I, Patricia Byers, SYLayor of the City of(Yakima and on behalf of
the (Yakima City Council- do hereby proclaim the weekofApril22-25, 2021 as
"YWCA STAND AGAINST iCIS914 SAY'
in the City of(Yakima and encourage atlpeople to work towards building racial equity
throughout the community.
