`G1 JaP, S, In 1962, President ,john T. Kennedy proclaimed stay 151h as National
peace Officer �Wemorial Day, and the calendar week in which stay 151h falls, as National
Police Neel, and
`G1 laP, S, National Police Week honors law enforcement officers who have lost
their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of the citizens they serve; and
WlaXW, on average, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty
somewhere in the vnitedStates every 57 hours andsince the first known line -of -duty death in
1791, more than 19,000 V.S. law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice; and
` P EP,W, it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties,
responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency, and that members of
our law enforcement agency recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding fife and
property, by protecting them against violence and disorder, and by protecting the innocent
against deception and the weakagainst oppression; and
`GWERW, the men and women of the Yakima Police Department unceasingly
provide a vital public service.
NOW V EREEOU, I, Micah Fawley, Mayor of the City of Takima and on behalf
of the City Council, do hereby proclaim stay 15, 2013 as
"FACE OFFICERS 3IE31oWrA� �A�'
in honor of those law enforcement officers who, through their courageous deed, have made the
ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have become disabled in the per of
duty, and let us recognize and pay respect to the survivors of our fallen heroes. Further, I call
upon all citizens to observe the week of stay 12 —18, 2013 as National Police Week in which
all of our citizens may join in commemorating law enforcement officers, past and present, who
by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities have rendered service to their
communities and, in so doing, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring
reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens.
