Old Business: Report on meeting with Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) Chief Rizzi advised that he had met with representatives from the DOC regarding work release prisoners sent to Yakima County from other counties. There are a disproportionate number of prisoners being sent to Yakima County that are from other counties. This issue needs to be addressed by both local enforcement and state legislation. Police will continue to work with DOC staff to create a notification system that will allow YPD to do a criminal analysis on potential out of county releases, in an effort to prevent them from being sent to Yakima upon release. Jail Study update: Chief Rizzi advised the final Jail Study plan was completed and discussed with Yakima County on February 5. The County wishes to take over all jail operations for /from the City of Yakima. There is a meeting scheduled for February 22 to work on a long term plan. Regional Fire Authority (RFA) update: Chief Willson advised the RFA study would be presented in a study session on February 26. Fire Inspection update: Chief Willson advised the job announcements had been sent out and there were many applicants. The Inspectors should be hired by March or April. They will have a 2 week training process that focuses on customer service and expectations. New Business: None Good of the Order: Chief Willson recognized the police officers who rescued the boys from Kiwanis pond. There was discussion regarding options to prevent future incidents of this nature. The meeting adjourned at 10:18 a.m. to the next meeting on March 22, 2013, @10:00 a.m. in the CED Conference Room in City Hall.
