4,Y&REAS, 1Parkinson's d7wase is a progressive neurologicalmovement disorder of the central
nervous system, which has a unique impact on each patient; and
W&REAS, according to the Tarkinson'sAction Network the Parkinson's Disease Toundation, the
YationafTarkinson Toundation, theAmerican Tarkinson DiseaseAssociation and the Yationaf Institutes of
.Ifeafth, there are over one millzonAmericans diagnosed with Tarkinson's disease; and
W&REAS, symptoms include slowness, tremor, d fficufty with balance and speaking, rigidity,
cognitive and memory problems; and
W&REAS, although new medicines and therapies may enhance Cfe for some time for people with
Parkinson's, more work is needed for a cure; and
W&REAS, increased education and research are needed to help find more effective treatments with
fewerside effects and ultimately a cure forTarkinson's d7wase; and
W&REAS, April has been proclaimed as World Wide Parkinson'sAwareness Month for all to
recognize the needfor more research andhelp in dealing with the devastating effects of Parkinson's d7wase.
NO W `ZVIr RETORE, I, Micah Cawley, Mayor of the City of Yakima and on behalf of the City
Council, do hereby proclaim April 2013 as
"Varkinson s Disease Awareness Month"
in the City of Yakima.
