Dear Yakima City Council,
I am a sixth grade student in an advanced program called SOAR. I have been
doing research involving an area of our community that we think needs help.
This project includes 10 hours of volunteer work in our community.
After our volunteering work we are required to present our knowledge in a
place that might help others be aware of the problems throughout the world.
My project is on the Elderly.'s Welfare and how depression and other
diseases may affect their life span and health. It would be great if we could
schedule a time for me to present at one of your meetings.
• I know you are a very busy people and have to take time out of your
schedule to work with me. I really appreciate your consideration.

My name is 'Kayla Schoonhoven and I am a 6 grade participant of an
advanced program in the Selah School District called . SOAR. This
program consists of a ten -hour community service project and
presentation of my knowledge.
I volunteered at the Living Care Nursing Care Facility in Yakima and
have learned many things. Through my research I have learned that
throughout the U.S. a lot of nursing homes are physically unfit or not
proper for its residents. Working with our community's elderly at
Living Care I have learned that this facility does not face these
problems.
I do believe our community needs more volunteers. There are a lot of
activities for nursing home residents to do, but there is more to
activities than just the games. Our community needs more volunteers.
Elderly in Retirement or Nursing Homes love to talk to people, but
there are not many volunteers at retirement homes. Some resident's
families can't visit them, so they need someone that they can talk to
other than the staff.. Our community needs volunteers more than we
may think.
To help our community people can volunteer in many ways. You can help
by spending time with individual residents, helping with activities such
as BINGO, exercise classes, or cooking classes. These are a few of the
ways that I helped out in the Nursing Home. You can also contribute by
helping to organize other activities like field trips, concerts, or
religious gatherings.
Thank you for your time and I hope that together, we can
make our community better!

Here is a little something someone sent me that is indisputable mathematical logic. It also made
me Laugh Out Loud.
This is a strictly mathematical viewpoint... it goes like this:
What Makes 100 %? What does it mean to give MORE than 100 %? Ever wonder about those
people who say they are giving more than 100 %? We have all been to those meetings where
Someone wants you to give over 100 %. How about achieving 133 %? What makes up 100%
In life? Heres a little mathematical formula that might help you answer these questions:
