Administrative Professionals Week (and "Day "),
formerly known as Professional Secretaries
Week, was created as an annual opportunity to
recognize the valuable contributions of office
support staff in business and government and to
encourage students to consider secretarial
careers. Administrative Professionals Week is
always held annually during the last full week in
April (standard Sunday through Saturday
calendar week). Administrative Professionals
Day is always held the Wednesday of that
week. Since its inception in 1952, APW has
been sponsored solely by IAAP, although when
APW was first observed, IAAP was then known
as the National Secretaries Association.
Sunny Kobe Cook became known for the chain of over 50
mattress stores she founded, Sleep Country USA. This former
secretary has won many awards for her business success
including Inc. Magazine Woman Entrepreneur of the Year.
Her company was repeatedly recognized by Washington
CEO Magazine as the 'Best Company to Work For ", the first
retailer to ever win this distinction. She sold her company
and has written a book, Common Things Uncommon Ways
sharing with other business people her proven formula for
success. In addition to speaking, Sunny serves as a Coach and
Consultant for entrepreneurs and small to mid -sized
businesses.
