March 18, 2013
TO: Members of the Yakima City Council
FROM: Nancy Fortier, Refuse and Recycling Manager
SUBJECT: Community Clean-up Event Update
On Saturday, March 9 the Refuse Division held the first of eight Community Clean-up Events
of 2013. A free drop-off site was open between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm at 75 Avenue and Mead
Avenue.
Refuse staff and volunteers working with ONDS collected approximate 4.8 tons of
miscellaneous garbage, yard debris and tires at this event. Yakima County provided three
recycling containers to collect mixed paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and milk jugs.
The clean-up events are designed to give Yakima residents the opportunity to clean up debris
from their property and to assist neighbors in their clean-up efforts. Volunteers are
encouraged to organize a group for special clean-up and beautification projects in alleys,
roadways and parks. They can contact the Refuse Code Compliance Officer, James Scott at 509-
576-6745 or go to the City of Yakima Web Site for assistance in organizing a volunteer group.
