This is a customary screening tool which can give you additional background and insight on theandidates you may be interviewing for the position. A response to these questions ;would normally be limited to 1500 words or less. I strongly recommend that you and the Council consider obtaining this additional background information in your review of final ±candidates for the City Manager position. Feel free to discuss these questions with your, colleagues on the Council or Colin Baenziger. 1. What is the size of the municipal operating and capital budgets you have managed and where? Describe your experience in budget preparation, control, management, and audit accountabilityi Include examples of specific efficiencies, . reorganizations, and other cost savingfineasures which have been implemented by you in response to budget shortfallslin the cities in which you have worked. 2. What is the largest number of employees you have managed and where? Explain the diversity of city operations IIihat this would encompass. 3. Describe your community and econo development experience. Please include examples of economic development projects you have initiated in your community including any successful public- private partnerships you have established or created. 4. Describe your experience in collective bargaining including labor negotiations with public interest groups which haves binding interest arbitration. What success have you had in obtaining labor concessions and cost restraint on labor settlements? 5. Describe your philosophy and experience in policy development process as contrasted with the City Council's role[as a governing body that sets policy. 1 1 1 6. Describe your management style and iexperience in developing and implementing programs that foster an 'environment of positive team oriented employees and excellent customer services to citizens. How would your employees /subordinates describe youas a manager? 7. Describe you experience in dealing With gangs and efforts you have participated in to reduce crime in your community and improve public safety for citizens and residents. f 1 8.
