Washington State and 1, 000 inadequately housed low - income men, women and children in `Yakima
County; and
WJPE 'S AS, this year in 'Yakima County, nearly one third of the homeless identified this year
were children under 18 years old, and 28 individuals were seniors older than 65 years old, and
WY-PERMS, S, in this season of generosity and sharing, citizens of 'Yakima County are
encouraged to commit themselves to promoting compassion and concern for all people, especially those
who are poor and homeless; and
`4 HERMS, in. remembering the people known to have died in 'Yakima County this year
without homes, and those who have died earlier than they should because of experiencing home
in their lives, the cause of ending homelessness remains urgent to prevent such deaths in the future;
and
WY-PERMS, December 21St has been designated, 9VationalJfome Persons' Memonal Day
by the National Coalition of the J-fomeless and the National.Ifealth Care for the gfomeless Council,
and zs so recognized by cities and counties nationwide.
NOW, TMERETOW,E, I Micah Cawley, 9I'tayor of the City of 'Yakima and on behalf of the
City Council, do hereby proclaim December 21, 2012, as

in the City of'Yakzma in recognition of the people who have died without a home, from ailments or
conditions directly related to homelessness, I hereby askall citizens to take a moment of silence zn
remembering those who have died homeless and encourage our citizens to support local efforts to
el minate homelessness.
