CITY OF YAKIMA, WASHINGTON
OCTOBER 26, 1993
ADJOURNED MEETING WITH YAKIMA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
The City Council met on this date at 7:30 a.m. in Conference
Room B at the Yakima School District Administration Building, 104
I/
North 4th Avenue, Yakima, Washington for discussion with the
Yakima County Commissioners. Council Members present were
Mayor Pat Berndt, presiding, Henry Beauchamp, William Brado,
Lynn Buchanan, and Bernard Sims. Council Members Clarence Barnett
and Skip Semon absent and excused. Staff Members present were
City Manager Zais, Assistant City Manager Rice, Glenn Valenzuela,
Director of Community & Economic Development, Don Skone, Planning
Manager, Mike Ouellett, Planning Department Intern, and Deputy
City Clerk Skovald. County Commissioners present were
Chuck Klarich and Jim Lewis. County staff members present were
Dick Anderwald, Dema Harris, and Dan Hesse.
Glenn Valenzuela outlined various details of Community
Redevelopment Financing including potential projects and the
importance of public participation in the process. There was an
exchange of ideas concerning apportionment of tax allocation
revenue and how it might affect various taxing entities, as well
as limitations and level of commitment. There was continued
discussion concerning the importance of revitalization of the
Central Business District.
Joe Gero, New Vision Executive Director, presented the New Vision
Economic Development Report. He emphasized the importance of
making the community marketable for business and job retention and
expansion.
Other issues discussed during this meeting include an update
concerning criminal illegal alien deportation consideration, a
brief discussion about the safety of bicyclists on Powerhouse
Road, and how other cities are creatively addressing quality of
life issues facing people across America today.
The meeting adjourned at 9:05 a.m, if
