w ERAS, in 2008 the City of (Yakima esta6fished the 'Yakima Arts Commission to
serve as a liaison to the (Yakima City CounciCin matters associated with visual and peionning
arts, community 6eautcation, and culture; and
WXERAS, art has the a6ifity to have an enormous impact on the fives of individuals
and can foster a unique sense of common identity; and
WXEEAS, in order to foster and encourage youth participation, the (Yakima Arts
Commission sponsored a contest for focal graphic art students to develop a pogo that could 6e
used 6y the (Yakima Arts Commission in the general6usiness of the work; and
fEREAS, a total of 13 entries were su6mitted 6y graphic arts students at Perry
Technical Institute, under the direction of instructor Shawn L7fayden; and
'31E?EAS, the (Yakima Arts Commission carefufty evaluated each of the Cogo contest
entries for unique and original design, clarity, application, and other retatedfactors; and
WXEREAS, a winning Cog design was chosen and the artist invited to workwith the
(Yakima Arts Commission,
