CITY OF YAKIMA, WASHINGTON
May 11, 1993
ADJOURNED ME
T he City Council met in sessi on this date at 7:00 a.m. at the
Yakima Center Board Room for informal discussion. Mayor Pat
Berndt presiding, Council Members Clarence Barnett, Henry
Beauchamp, Lynn Buchanan, skip Semon, and Bernard Sims present.
Council Member Bill Brado absent and excused. City Manager Zais,
Assistant City Manager Rice, Assistant to the City Manager Oliver,
and Deputy City Clerk Skovald also present.
There was informal discussion among Council members and staff
about modern trends in area business and development. Downtown
parking alternatives, not only customers and merchants, but for
people who work in the downtown business area were discussed.
Council members and staff expressed their viewpoints about whether
to continue the monthly meetings with individual departments. It
was the consensus among those Council members who will be
attending to reschedule the meetings to once a month on Tuesdays,
instead of Wednesdays.
There was discussion regarding the upcoming City /County Elected
Officials Retreat and topics were selected for that meeting.
There was also discussion about the 911 consolidation and the
proposed contract on today's Business Meeting agenda.
After a Legislative issue update, there was discussion regarding
the Convention Center revitalization and expansion as well as the
amount of money the Convention Center generates. It was indicated
that there is a need to look to alternatives such as the
possibility of consideration of expanding to public /private
ownership of the Convention Center.
After discussion regarding the All American City competition, the
meeting adjourned at 8:50 a.m.
