Playground equipment valued at approximately Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000) was recently stolen from La Casa Hogar's property leaving the organization unable to meet the needs of children seeking services at the agency. City Council believes it would benefit the community to assist La Casa Hogar with a contribution for the purpose of replacing the stolen playground equipment. The Resolution authorizes the City Manager to provide La Casa Hogar up to One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500) from the non- federal funds available from ONDS to be applied toward the purchase of replacement playground equipment. R -2012- A RESOLUTION authorizing the expenditure of up to One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars from the non - federal funds provided to the Office of Neighborhood Development Services to assist in the replacement of playground equipment stolen from the nonprofit organization La Casa Hogar. WHEREAS, La Casa Hogar is a local not - for - profit organization serving the needs of families in the Yakima community; and WHEREAS, recently certain playground equipment estimated to have a value of approximately Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000) was stolen from the property of La Casa Hogar leaving the organization unable to meet the needs of children seeking the services of the establishment; and WHEREAS, the City's Office of Neighborhood Development Services (ONDS) has certain non - federal funds available for assisting with community services; and WHEREAS, the City Council believes it would be appropriate and beneficial to the community to assist La Casa Hogar with its provision of services to the families and children of the community by providing up to One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500) from the non federal ONDS funds to be applied toward the cost of replacing the stolen playground equipment; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the provision of up to One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars in non - federal ONDS funding to La Casa Hogar is a necessary support on behalf of the poor and therefore in accord with Article VIII, Section 7 of the Washington constitution; Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Manager of the City of Yakima is hereby authorized and directed to provide up to One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500) to La Casa Hogar from the non - federal funds available from ONDS to be used specifically as a contribution toward the purchase of replacement playground equipment for that equipment recently stolen from them.
