Present:
Council: Micah Cawley, presiding, Council Members Kathy Coffey, Maureen
Adkison, Sara Bristol, Rick Ensey, Dave Ettl and Bill Lover.

2. Retreat Guidelines and Desired Outcomes
John Cooper, President and CEO of the Yakima Valley Convention Center
introduced himself and discussed the guidelines and desired outcomes of the
retreat.
3. Utilization of Study Sessions and Council Committees
Mayor Cawley questioned if the Council was in favor of returning to a study session
format instead of multiple committee meetings. Council discussed how items can be
referred back to Council Committee's and if it is a policy issue or will lead to a policy
issue it should go to the full Council and then decided if it should go to a
Committee. It was Council consensus to return to the study session format.
4. Strategic Priorities/Vision & Mission /Goals
Mr. Cooper asked Council if their current Mission and Vision are compatible.
Council members discussed possible changes to the City's Mission and Vision
statement. It was Council consensus to bring this back at a study session for further
discussion.
5. City Service Levels

Council discussed setting levels of service. It was Council consensus to have a
study session wherein Department Directors discuss how they are meeting set
priorities and based on that review strategic prioirites in relation to levels of service.
6. Council Roundtable
Council discussed how to get the community involved more effectively and research
how other cities do this. Mayor Cawley questioned how they can be a step ahead of
the media and frame the message and be proactive rather than reactive. Council
Member Coffey left the meeting at 4:35 p.m.

The meeting adjourned at 4:42 p.m. to the next Council Business meeting on
February 7, 2012 at 6 p.m.
Motion: Approve, Moved by Council Member Council Member Rick Ensey,
Seconded by Council Member Assistant Mayor Maureen Adkison. Carried. 6 -0.
Council Members voting Aye: Adkison , Bristol , Cawley, Ensey, , Ettl , Lover.
Council Members Absent: Coffey.
10. The next City Council Business Meeting will be February 7, 2012 at 6 p.m. at City
Hall Council Chambers. 0
