Cost: FREE. Join the Yakima Historic Preservation Commission, the South East Neighborhood Improvement Committee, and citizens interested in the history of Yakima in saluting the Maple Street Incinerator for its recent listing on the Yakima Register of Historic Places. Completed in 1935, the incinerator was viewed as an innovative method to improve environmental conditions and overall health. The structure's fagade remains largely intact, was part of President Franklin's New Deal, and today the incinerator is an important piece of Yakima's history and its smoke stack has been an icon in southeast Yakima for over seven decades. All citizens are welcome at the event to celebrate Yakima's history.
