ITEM TITLE: Appointments to the Yakima Housing Authority, Lodging Tax
Advisory Committee, Tourist Promotion Association and Civil
Service

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
Confirm City Manager, Charter Civil Service and Police/Fire Commission appointment of Sophia
Trevino to the dual position with Charter Civil Service and Police/Fire Civil Service. Additionally,
the Council Nominating Committee met on November 17, 2020 and makes the following
recommendations:
• Yakima Housing Authority-- Reappoint Christine Goodwin
• Lodging Tax Advisory Committee -- Reappoint: Angie Girard, Charlie Robin, Juliana
Marroquin, Sara Allen and Lisa Vallejo
• Tourist Promotion Area-- Reappoint: Sara Allen and Lisa Vallejo

COUNCIL NOMINATING COMMITTEE MINUTES
Council Members Byers, Macias and Hill
City Manager's Conference Room or call 576-6400
Tuesday, November 17, 2020 @ 11 a.m.
Meeting convened at 11:05 a.m.
Council present: Byers, Macias (via speakerphone) and Cousens/alternate (via
speakerphone)
1. New business
• The Committee reviewed the following boards & committee applications:
• Yakima Housing Authority— MOTION: Cousens moved
and Byers seconded to reappoint Christine Goodwin. The
motion carried by unanimous vote.
• Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (*members who are
representative of businesses required to collect tax and
**members who are persons involved in activities
authorized to be funded by revenue received). MOTION:
Cousens moved and Byers seconded to reappoint **Angie
Girard, **Charlie Robin, *Juliana Marroquin, *Sara Allen and
*Lisa Vallejo. The motion carried by unanimous vote.
• Tourist Promotion Area (Must be nominated by the
Yakima Valley Lodging Association, which they were).
MOTION: Cousens moved and Byers seconded to
reappoint Sara Allen and Lisa Vallejo. The motion carried
by unanimous vote.
2. Other business: Claar Tee reported the City Manager and Charter Civil Service
will have an upcoming appointment to Charter Civil Service and Police & Fire
Civil Service (combined position). This is a City Manager/Charter Civil Service
appointment that will need to be ratified by the Council.
3. Adjournment—the meeting adjourned at 11:12 a.m.
