Minutes for Meeting can September 23, 2020

I. Call to Order
Chair Hall called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 P.M.
II. Roll Call
HPC Members Present: Cynthia Hall, Alixanne Pinkerton, Dawn King, Paul Edmondson
HPC Members Absent: Joe Mann
Quorum: Quorum present
Staff: Trevor Martin, Associate Planner
III. Approval of February Meeting Minutes
It was motioned by Commissioner and seconded by Commissioner to approve
the meeting minutes of February 26, 2020; the motion carried unanimously.

VI. New Business
A. Northwest Vernacular Presentation
Spencer Howard from Northwest Vernacular presented the history of Naches Ave, findings
from the reconnaissance -level survey that was performed for Naches Ave from Yakima
Ave to H St, and the study that was done for the entirety of Naches Ave. Howard stated
that they are recommending 13 properties for potential eligibility for the National Register
of Historic Places, and 13 properties for the Yakima Register of Historic Places. He also
recommended reaching out to the owners of these properties to see if they are interested
in having their properties listed on a register, performing a reconnaissance -level survey of
buildings on South Naches Ave (south of Yakima Ave to Race St), preparing a Latinx
heritage historic context statement, and developing a tree management and regeneration
plan.

Ruth Bishop, 602 N Naches Ave, expressed her desire to maintain her property and have
it placed on a historic register. Discussion took place on the features of the house.
Associate Planner Trevor Martin explained that after South Naches Ave is surveyed, he
would like to move towards creating a local historic district or conservation district, and
later a national historic district, to protect the parkway and provide opportunities for grant
money.

A motion to adjourn to October 28, 2020 was passed with unanimous vote. This meeting
adjourned at approximately 6:30 p.m.
