❑ Proclamation Martin Luther King Jr Week
Proclamation
Whereas, racial inequality, violence and unequal opportunity
are serious problems that endanger the democratic ideals of our country; and
Whereas, the economic and personal toll of social inequality is violence and amounts
to severely reduced freedom and an increase in fear, and
Whereas, government, schools, and the community will be implementing special
activities during Martin Luther King, Jr. Week to highlight the dream of a true democracy,
and
Whereas, the City of Yakima is actively involved in promoting and preserving racial
equality, a peaceful community and accessible opportunity by all citizens; and
Whereas, this year's Martin Luther King, Jr. Week theme is "Share the Dream."
Now, therefore, the City of Yakima does hereby proclaim the week of January 15
through January 21, 2012 as
Martin Luther King, Jr. Week
And urge all citizens to loin in acknowledging those people involved in honoring the life
of Martin Luther King, Jr and the principles for which he fought and died
