'GIIJFEw S, tfie City of Yakima celebrates our localsmall businesses and the contributions
tfiey make to our local economy and community; and
WIFE AS, according to the 'J.S. SmallBusinessAdministration, there are currently 30.7
million small businesses in tfie 'United States and they represent 99.7percent of all businesses with
employees in tfie 'United States; and
'WJ[EREAS small businesses employ 47.3%of the employees in the private sector in tfie
'United States, 62% of V.S. small businesses reported that tfiey need to see consumer spending return
to pre-CO`CIcii levels by tfie end of 2020 in order to stay in business; and
WIFEI A S, 65%of'J.S. small business owners said it would be most helpful to their
business to have tfieir'regulars"return and start making purchases again, and three-quarters of V.S.
consumers are currently looking for ways to Sfiop Small®and support their community; and
` i?JLEc! EAS 96%of consumers wfio shopped on Small Business Saturday®agree tfiat
shopping at small, independently-owned businesses supports tfieir commitment to making purchases
tfiat have a positive social, economic, and environmental impact and97% of consumers wfio shopped
on Small Business Saturday agree tfiat small businesses are essential to tfieir community; and
WIFEREAS, 95%of consumers wfio shopped on Small Business Saturday reported the day
makes them want to sfiop or eat at small; independently-owned businesses allyear long, not just
during tfie holiday season; and
tWflERE S, tfie City of Yakima supports our local businesses tfiat create jobs, boost our local
economy and preserve our communities; and
'WJ[EXEAS advocacy groups, as wellas public andprivate organizations, across tfie country
have endorsed the Saturday after'Ilzanksgiving as Small Business Saturday.
NOW TI E12EWCRE, I, Patricia Byers, Mayor of the City of Yakima and on behalf of the
Yakima City Council do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 28, 2020 as

and urge tfie residents of our community, and communities across tfie country, to support small
businesses and merchants on Small Business Saturday and throughout tfie year
