Approve September 1 minutes It was MOVED by Copeland and SECONDED by Folsom -Hill to approved the October 6, 2011 minutes without changes. Motion PASSED unanimously. GFI Action Planning Update: Magallan introduced the Youth and Family Development Center concept to the committee. This is not a new concept, nor is it a stand -alone program, but is a part of the comprehensive approach. The key to the success of the Youth and Family Development Center is breaking down the walls between existing community programs and organizations. The coordination and promotion of this concept can attract funding, especially when it follows proven, effective models. Old Business: Yakima School District Parent Forum There was a very good turnout at the Parent Forum and many great questions asked by the parents. They seemed genuinely interested in the GFI mission and activities. The next parent forum will be March 13, 2012. New Business: The subcommittee structures will be changing with the transition from planning to action. The new subcommittees will be marketing, resource directory, community empowerment infomercial, and website. Subject matter experts will be selected to advise the new subcommittees. The marketing strategy would involve televising GFI Steering Committee meeting on YPAC, the branding of the GFI logo, and design and development of the website. Televising the meetings needs to be discussed by the committee, and there were no objections from the committee members present. The marketing strategy will be discussed in more detail at the next meeting. Adkison recommended brainstorming with Randy Beehler on marketing strategies. The committee agreed that the logo project should be given to the art students of the Yakima School District. Date for next meeting The next Steering Committee meeting will be the 2 Thursday in December, December 8, 2011 at 4 p.m. The meeting will be held at Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health.
