ADJOURNED MEETING -- CITY /COUNTY
The City Council met in session on this date at 8:00 a.m. at JB's
Restaurant for informal discussion. Mayor Pat Berndt (present
after 8:20 a.m.) presiding, Council Members Clarence Barnett, Henry
Beauchamp, Lynn Buchanan, and Skip Semon present. Council Members
Bernard Sims and Bill Brado absent and excused. Yakima County
Commissioners Bettie. Ingham and Charles Klarich present.
Commissioner Alex Deccio absent and excused. City staff members
present were City Manager Zais, Assistant City Manager Rice, City
Clerk Roberts, and Deputy City Clerk Skovald.
Curbside recycling was discussed since it is being considered by
the Yakima County Solid Waste Advisory Committee. Council
Member Barnett stated this type of recycling would divert the least
amount and is the most expensive method. There are other means
that would reduce more waste than residential curbside recycling.
Curbside recycling for the urban areas, drop off sites for the
rural areas, and other possible alternatives were discussed
regarding solid waste reduction.
In terms of revenue, the Commissioners spoke about the various
dilemmas the County is facing, including additional State budget
cuts, and possible solutions under consideration.
County Commissioners Klarich and Ingham commented on the new jail
opening and indicated the need to reduce prisioner transportation
costs.
Following further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at
9:15 a.m.
