Adkison called the meeting to order.
• Approve September 1 minutes
It was MOVED by Hughes and SECONDED by DeVilleneuve to approved the September 1st
minutes without changes. Motion PASSED unanimously.
GFI Action Planning Update: •
Magallan introduced the Latino Multi - Family Group concept to the committee. Although the •
model presented was designed to assist families with mental health issues, this problem
solving format could be adapted to fit within the gang intervention structure and become a
service partner of the GFI. It was recognized that this program would not apply to all gang
members. There would be a need to assess the appropriateness of the program on an
individual basis, based on the level of gang involvement and other factors in order for the
program to succeed. It was discussed that this is only one service that could be offered
through the GFI framework. Merryman recommended. moving forward with modifying the
program to fit the GFI and identify partners.

Old Business:

The GFI was not selected to receive the OJJDP Anti -Gang Grant. The planning group will
reconvene to review the feedback received on the grant application. The Promise
Neighborhoods grant is still pending.

New Business:
None
Good of the Order:
The Yakima School District parent forum will be held October 13, 2011 at Washington Middle
School. The community profile will be available and volunteers are needed for the GFI booth.
Garcia requested that the Community Profile be provided in Spanish.
Magallan will continue in a consultant on retainer position with the GFI to assist with the GFI
Coordinator selection and initial implementation.
Date for next meeting
The next Steering Committee meeting will be November 3, 2011 at 4 p.m. The meeting will
be held at Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health.
