HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION (HPC)
Minutes for Meeting, on February 26, 2020
I. Call to Order
Chair Hall called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 P.M.
II. Roll Call
HPC Members Present: Cynthia Hall, Alixanne Pinkerton, Paul Edmondson, Joe Mann,
HPC Members Absent: Dawn King
Quorum: Quorum present
Staff: Trevor Martin, Associate Planner
III. Approval of January Meeting Minutes
It was motioned by Commissioner Mann and seconded by Commissioner Edmondson to
approve the meeting minutes of January 22, 2020; the motion carried unanimously.
IV. Staff Announcements
None noted.
V. Audience Participation
None noted.
VI. New Business
A. Northwest Vernacular Contract
Associate Planner Trevor Martin informed the Commission that Northwest Vernacular is
starting to work on the Naches Parkway survey which covers Naches Ave from Yakima
Ave to H St. Northwest Vernacular will attend an upcoming Commission meeting and will
attend another meeting later in the year before submitting the information to DAHP
(Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation).
B. DAHP 2021 Grant Ideas
Martin announced that DAHP has opened the 2021 grant process. Discussion ensued
regarding project ideas to use for the grant. The Commission had consensus for staff to
look into applying for a grant to have the southern portion of Naches Parkway (south of

Yakima Ave to Race St) surveyed. Staff will bring back information on this at the next
Commission meeting.
VII. Other Business
Martin indicated that the Commission will present awards at their next meeting on March
25, 2020. At the October 23, 2019 meeting, the Commission had voted to award Nancy
Wahl in the category of "research," Roger Wilson in the category of "project," and George
Pechtel in the category of "inspiration."
Commissioner Mann announced that the annual "Revitalize WA" event will be held in
Wenatchee on April 6ch 7ch and 8th. He encouraged everyone to attend and noted that the
Commission and the Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) could submit the Naches
Parkway project next year to the conference for consideration of an award. Mann spoke on
the projects that DAY has submitted and ones they have received awards for.
VIII. Adjournment
A motion to adjourn to March 25, 2020 was passed with unanimous vote. This meeting
adjourned at approximately 5:43 p.m.
