GFI Action •Planninq Update: • Magallan provided the update as Merryman was absent. Magallan advised that the committee is entering it's final phase and moving into full action planning. Program and activity partnerships will be created after the committee decides the direction of the action • plan. Some programs and partnerships were briefly discussed. Magallan stressed the importance of measurable goals and objectives for the programs, and that evidence based programs would be required if Federal funding was used. Magallan also discussed the • OJJDP Outreach and Intervention Team model, which is a multi- systemic, gang case management model. This is a strategy, not a program, and would be the clearing house or go between for programs. This model is not required unless the community is designated as a OJJDP Gang Model Community. Even though it's not required, the committee discussed the benefits of forming an Intervention Team. The Intervention Team could identify gaps in services and help identify partners to fill those gaps. • • It was MOVED by Hughes and SECONDED by Beraza to incorporate the Intervention Team Ask model into the Comprehensive Gang Model. Motion PASSED unanimously. Old Business: None. New Business: The Promise Neighborhoods Grant is being spearheaded by Ready by Five. There should be news on the Community Violence Prevention grand application with Yakima County very soon. The Gates Foundation Grant will be a big "ask" and is the top funding priority for the GFI. Steering Committee members are requested not to ask individually or as members of other organizations for these grant funds. Merryman and Martinez are working on a workshop or symposium on how to report a gang crime. It will be presented to the committee for approval once completed. Beraza advised the school district is hosting a parent forum on October 13. October 13 was set for the target date to complete the project. Committee members can use the Community Profile when asked about the progress of the GFI. Magellan stated that discussion at the next meeting would cover the evolution of the Steering Committee, the guiding principles of the GFI, and policies and procedures to govern future actions of the Steering Committee. Good of the Order: Gutierrez shared an article from the Wenatchee newspaper. The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 p.m: Date for next meeting The next Steering Committee meeting will be October 6, 2011 at 4 p.m. The meeting will be held at Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health.
