`WJCEI!EAS Careers in Construction%onth is an annual month designated to help increase puBlic
awareness of the opportunities availaBle in construction trades professions; and
WIFE1 AS, during this month, employers, associations, and schools are encouraged to conduct job
fairs, panel discussions, and local community events to inform students of the vast employment opportunities
in construction; and
WIFE1 A S, the construction industry is one of our nation's largest industries, employing more than
5 million individuals in the V.S.; and
WIFER,EAS we are pleased to honor construction trades professionals and the critical'role they play
in the development of Yakima; and
WIFER,EAS through a collaborative effort that reaches poll ymakers as well as local educators and
high school'students, our goal is to effectively address some of the issues that have contrihuted to chronic labor
shortages and misperceptions of careers in construction, to develop a skilledworb€force for the future; and
WIFERE S, the Central Washington¶ome Builders Association is commuted to the enrichment of
the educational experience of students and the community By offering them first-hand exposure to the real
world of the Building industry through membership, educational programming, school curriculum, and
networking opportunities.
NOW 4`JFEIREcFO1'ZE, in recognition of tfie important role that tfie construction industry
plays in growing our community, I, Patricia Byers, Mayor of tfie City of Yakima and Behalf of the
Yakima City Council, do hereby proclaim tfie month of October 2020 as

in the City of Yakima and urge all citizens to join us in this special observance by seeking to learn more
about tfie exciting world of building and construction.
