As you know, funds for this all-volunteer, non-profit event are scarce.. We are askiiig you again this year for your support, so that this event can continue to be a free, family-oriented celebration of our nation's birthday. Since 1991, the ','Yakima 4'h of July" has been the focal point of our valley's celebration of Independence Day and the freedoms and liberties we enjoy in this great nation. This completely free event was attended by an. estimated 25,000 people last year — no I t including the thousands who watched the region's biggest fireworks show from somewhere other than our State Fair Park venue.. In addition to. the..intangible benefit-to the qua.lity.of life that this event brings to the greater Yakima community, •there are tangible benefits county . realized by the city, coun and its residents.: The celebration helps' curb illegal firework activities throiigfiout the county. Before fireworks were banned in the city, the Fire Department would staff two extra engines and additional dispatchers to handle the more than 250 calls . for fife service on the 4th of July — at a significant cost in overtime. Without this kind of organized community festiyal, we fear a return-to a similar situation with a significant increase in fire service calls due to illegal fireworks in the, city. A city-wide sponsored event encourages the kind of safe, family entertainment we can all enjoy. Without your participation, this longtime community event is in jeopardy — the committee respectfully requests your assistance and leadership. We will also be requesting funds from neighboring communities who also benefit from this cherished annual event. Thank you for your kind consideration. Respectfully, I /Prill hairpreirlson. In addition, given the enforcement provisions of the ADA, it is always advisable to go with the most stringent standards available since any given judge may or may not accept the "I met the letter of the building code" argument...
