Members, On behalf of the Yakima Valley Landlords Association, please accept this letter as our expression of support for the Yakima Police Department's Crime -Free Rental Housing Program, and the work of Lt. Tom Foley, Sgt. Linda Watts, Officer Ritch Fowler, and administrator Lavonne Woody. The recent Yakima Herald - Republic article by Chris Bristol, included a description of how the program is presently viewed - and is worthy of being paraphrased: Rather than enforcing the nuisance property ordinance in a punitive manner, Fowler uses the warning letter as ti portunity to develop a relationship with the property owner and discuss the potential problems and ons. This approach creates a cooperative partnership and will result in better outcomes.... As with any successful partnership the dedication of all participants is required. Many of our members find this program vital as a tool to identify problem tenants. The Yakima Valley Landlords Association is dedicated to the success and continuation of this program to ensure safer housing in the city of Yakima. We appreciate the City Council's support for the Crime -Free Rental Housing Program.
