Discussion of Selection Options for New Trees on Naches Avenue
The meeting began at 1:05 p.m. The trees to be planted will be street trees along the avenue, not
on the center parkway. Planting the trees in the fall was deemed optimal.
As Naches Avenue has a large supply of maple trees, it was suggested to consider maple species
(such as Sycamore Maple) different than what is currently on the Parkway. Kastura and Regal
Petticoat Maple were mentioned as possibilities. Yellowwood was also mentioned as a potential
choice, which would be a new species for Yakima's public trees.
Ginkgo, Brandywine Maple, and Purple Maple were the three species ultimately chosen to plant
on Naches Avenue.

Chip noted that 506 individuals came to the City's inaugural booth as this year's Arbor Festival.

The meeting adjourned at 1:36 p.m. The next YTCUSA Board of Advisors meeting will be
determined at a later date.
