Introduction and Welcome
Jheri Ketcham convened the monthly meeting of the Yakima Tree City USA (YTCUSA) Board at
5:03 p.m. at City Hall in the 2nd Floor Conference Room,129 N. 2nd Street, Yakima, Washington.
Approval of the Meeting Minutes from February 19, 2019
Lance made the motion to approve the previous meeting's minutes, and Jheri seconded the
motion.
Arbor Day Proclamation —Arbor Festival
The theme of this year's Arbor Festival is "A Walk in the Woods." There will be 40 stations, and
the Arboretum will be giving away 350 trees, including Dogwood, Japanese Maple, and Red
Maple.
Street Tree Inventory
Associate Planner Eric Crowell presented the latest version of the draft tree inventory report.
Lance mentioned that he felt people in the community are getting better about not topping trees.
Staff Report —Chip Rognlie
The Tree City USA signs have been updated to reflect that the City of Yakima has now been a
member for three years. Chip will be bringing the Tree City USA flag to the Arbor Festival.
For the Good of the Order
The Board still needs planting ideas for Naches Avenue. It might be a good idea to plant a total
of three species. Ginkgo and Zelcova were mentioned as possibilities. There will be 30 or so trees
planted along the parking strips from E. Yakima Ave. to Pacific Ave. It was suggested to hold a
future meeting on Naches Ave. to perform a site visit and discuss what tree species should be
planted.
Adjournment
Jheri motioned to adjourn the meeting at 5:52 p.m., and Lance seconded the motion. The next
YTCUSA Board of Advisors meeting will be held on April 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the corner of
E. Maple St. and S. Naches Ave.
