Introduction and Welcome
Jheri Ketcham convened the monthly meeting of the Yakima Tree City USA (YTCUSA) Board at
5:00 p.m. at City Hall in the City Council Chambers,129 N. 2nd Street, Yakima, Washington.
Approval of the Meeting Minutes from December 3, 2018
Jheri made the motion to approve the previous meeting's minutes.
Street Tree Inventory —Finishing Up Data Cleaning
The Silver Maples and Norway Maples that have been taken out will be removed from the list.
Staff Report —Chip Rognlie
Approximately 25 to 30 trees will be replaced on Naches Ave., and will be planted as soon as the
sidewalks are put in. The importance of having planting standards and standards for sidewalk
construction for trees was noted.
In continuing to discuss the tree round that was taken from a downed tree on Naches Ave., Daniel
noted that it could dry within a year. Painting both sides could help to preserve it.
The dangerous tree over the statue on Naches Ave. has been removed. It exhibited over 95 percent
decay. There are three similar trees by the YMCA that might be in the same poor condition. Daniel
noted that a tool known as a resistograph, which uses drill bits to measure the interior resistance
of a tree. Other tools use soundwaves.
Chip still plans to do a pruning workshop in the near future.

Jheri motioned to adjourn the meeting at 5:37 p.m., and Daniel seconded the motion. The next
YTCUSA Board of Advisors meeting will be held on February 4, 2019 at 5:00 pm in the City
Council Chambers.
