For Meeting of: October 6, 2020 ITEM TITLE: Lodging Tax Advisory Committee Report SUBMITTED BY: Steve Groom, Director of Finance and Budget SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee met on August 14th and 27th to discuss 2021 Lodging Tax Grant Applications. The committee recommended a reduction of the 2021 revenue estimate and recommended allocation to the Yakima Valley Tourism, Capitol Theatre, SOZO Sports of Central Washington, and the Central Washington State Fair Association. Staff will be incorporating the recommendation into the 2021 Preliminary Budget and will include it in the scheduled study sessions. The committee recommendation utilizes a 2020 Lodging Tax Revenue forecast of $l/3l[i00[i based on actuals through July 2020 and on hotel interactions with event and meeting planners. The committee sought to prioritize both city-owned facilities while seeking to reinvest lodging tax to maximize overnight hotel stays to the greatest extent possible.
