ITEM TITLE: Authorization for the Department of Community and Economic Development to
submit to the Washington State Department of :Ecology a Shorelines Master
Program grant application in the amount of $40,000.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The City of Yakima is required to prepare and submit an updated Shorelines Management
Practices Ordinance by June 2013. The Washington State Department of Ecology is currently
offering technical assistance grants of up to $40,000 over the next two years to assist in
S defraying the costs of updating these required regulations. This grant will be used to partially
pay the salaries of current staff while they are engaged in the preparation of these updated
regulations. You are herein requested to approve the attached resolution authorizing the
submission of this grant application.

RESOLUTION NO. R -2011-
A RESOLUTION authorizing the Department of Community and Economic Development to
submit to the Washington State Department of Ecology a Shorelines Master
Program grant application in the amount of $40,000.
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima is required to update its Shoreline Master Program
development regulations by June 2013; and
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima is eligible to be awarded a grant of $40,000 to be used in
the completion of this update; and
WHEREAS, in a period of constrained budgets this grant will significantly defray the cost
of this undertaking; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City to be eligible
for the receipt of these grant monies, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
0 The submission of a $40,000 grant application to the Department of Ecology to be
utilized in updating City's Shorelines Master Program development regulations is hereby ratified.
ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 5th day of July, 2011.
