On January 26, 2011 the Historic Preservation Commission issued a written recommendation for approval of this application. COUNCIL ACTION: • • CITY OF YAKIMA HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Commission Findings of Fact January 26, 2011 In the Matter of Application for Nomination to the Yakima Register of Historic Places Submitted by: City of Yakima Historic Preservation Commission To place the historic City of Yakima Maple Street S Incinerator, located in vicinity of Maple Street and Fair Avenue at 317 Fair Avenue on the Yakima Register of Historic Places Summary of Decision The Historic Preservation Commission approves of the nomination application to place the City of Yakima Maple Street Incinerator.on the Yakima Register of Historic Places. Introduction. The Historic Preservation Commission conducted an open record public hearing on January 26, 2011 to review the nomination application submitted by Nancy. Kenmotsu, Ph. D on behalf of the city's Historic Preservation Commission to place the historic Maple Street Incinerator on the Yakima Register of Historic Places. Commissioner Kenmotsu provided clarification of several points and testified in favor of the application. No one provided letters or oral testimony in opposition to the application. • Commission Members 1 Byron Gumz • Scott Irons • Nancy Kenmotsu • Joe Mann • Karl Pasten • Greg Rainka Jenifer Wilde- McMurtrie Basis for Decision Based upon a review of the complete application, site visit, discussions with the applicant, staff Report of Findings, exhibits, testimony and other evidence presented at the open record public hearing on January 26, 2011; and a review of Yakima Historic Preservation Ordinance and Yakima Register of Historic Places Criteria; the Historic Preservation Commission makes the following: FINDINGS Any building, structure, site, object, or district may be designated for inclusion in the Yakima Register of Historic Places if it is significantly associated with the history, . architecture, archaeology, engineering, or cultural heritage of the community; if it has integrity; is at lease forty (40) years old, or is of lesser age and has exceptional importance; and it falls in at least one of ten established criteria. 1. The City of Yakima Maple Street Incinerator meets the 40 -year age criteri established for listing on the Yakima Register of Historic Places. The City o Yakima Maple Street Incinerator is eligible for individual listing in the Yakima Register of Historic Places under Criteria Two and Four. 2. Criteria One) Embodies the distinctive architectural characteristics of a type, period, style, or method of design or construction, or represents a significant and distinguishable entity whose components may lack individual distinction. 3. (Criteria Two) Embodies the distinctive architectural characteristics of a type, period, style, or method of design or construction, or represents a significant and distinguishable entity whose components may lack individual distinction. 4. (Criteria 4) Exemplifies or reflects special elements of Yakima's cultural, special, economic, political, aesthetic, engineering, or architectural history. RECOMMENDATION The City of Yakima Maple Street Incinerator nomination meets Criteria 1, 2 and 4 for designation to the Yakima Register of Historic Places.
